Arguably the most elegant region in Italy, Piedmont boasts regal palaces, exquisite food and aristocratic cities, against a backdrop of picturesque landscapes and pastoral hills. The medieval city of Asti is probably best known as the producer of sparkling wine, and is the perfect base for exploring nearby Turin, the capital of this region with its tree-lined boulevards and cosmopolitan atmosphere, and for enjoying the flavours of the Langhe region including truffles.
We’ll explore Turin is often overlooked in favour for cosmopolitan Milan or ancient Venice, but this hidden gem is a city that rivals any in Italy. It boasts elegant tree-lined boulevards bursting with art nouveau cafes and mixes contemporary with historical to create a truly unique and chic backdrop. Turin is famous for Italy’s most iconic car, the Fiat, as well as being home to very first hotel chocolate.
Our next included excursion will take us on a gastronomical journey through the region, enjoying the Taste of Piedmont. We’ll enjoy learning more about the truffles this area is famous for, why they’re such a delicacy and how they are hunted for by skilled dogs. Later we’ll continue sample Barolo wine, the most famous red wine of the region, before finishing the day with a chocolate tasting.

Day One – UK to France
We’ll make our way from the UK to France, via Calais, and will spend the night at a comfortable hotel.
Day Two – France to Asti
In the morning, we’ll continue our journey to Asti where we’ll stay at the three-star Hotel Lis for the next four nights. (B,D)
Days Three to Five – Asti
Explore this charming city at your leisure and explore the Piedmont region with trips to Turin with its baroque architecture, and the Langhe region, famous for its local delicacies such as truffles and wine. Enjoy your evening meals in a nearby restaurant to fully enjoy the flavours of the area and relax with wine and water included with dinner. (B,D)
Day Six – Asti to France
Our holiday draws to a close today as we travel back to France for an overnight stay. (B,D)
Day Seven – France to UK
We’ll return to the UK today, travelling via Calais and then continuing home. (B)

Full Day: Taste of Piedmont
Meet the "Tartufaro", the man who hunts for truffles in nearby Alba and learn about the history of this exclusive delicacy, then follow him and his dog into the wood on the hunt for truffles. Later enjoy a glass of Barolo wine in a beautiful vineyard, the most famous red wine of the area. Finish the day with a tasting of this region's special chocolate and nougat.
Full Day: Turin
Stroll through Turin's elegant streets and piazzas at your leisure. Why not find a local cafe to try the Bicerin, a typical hot drink from Turin? Or else why not visit Europe's largest open air food market, or else the fascinating Cinema Museum.
