Local departure by coach, then to the Düsseldorf area for a three-night stay.
Our included excursion takes us into Düsseldorf centre to spend the day exploring all the city has to offer. During the festive season, Düsseldorf’s Christmas Market, considered to be one of the most beautiful in Germany, takes place in several locations within the centre. Enjoy free time meandering the merry stalls whilst sipping a cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate. Be sure to see the 100-year-old merry-go-round, which has lovingly been restored.
Today we travel to the majestic city of Cologne on our included excursion. Cologne’s history traces back more than 2,000 years when it was founded as a Roman colony. Today it has developed into a beautiful cosmopolitan city. Advent magic spreads throughout Cologne at this time of year, when the idyllic Christmas markets open their gates to visitors. Festive stalls offer traditional goods and handcrafted gifts. Wonderful spicy aromas of cinnamon stars, baked apples and roasted almonds will fill the air.

Booking was easy over the phone. Good clear communication and information between booking and departure. Didn’t get the itinerary until about 10 days before we left. The very early pick up (01:40) was a bit of a shock. I have to admit if I had known this before booking I may have had second thought. That said, it was fine, I was able to catch some sleep on the coach to Felixstowe. A long journey there and back from Cornwall 20 hours but the two days of excursions were very well organised and enjoyable. We had from 11:00 until 17:00 at each market. The coaches were decorated for Christmas, Christmas music being played. Drinks were available on board all adding to the festive cheer. Comfort on the coaches varied according to which coach you were on. Our feeder coach in the UK was much more comfortable than the one we had on the tour. If you live in Cornwall from 2025 there are no pickups in the County, you have to travel to Plymouth. Crews were friendly, gave clear information regarding timings for travel. The holiday was advertised as 4*, the Hotel was not quite what I would expect for 4*. Although very clean and warm, room was cramped. Shower towels were small, no kettle - learned on last day you had to request this from reception. Food was good and being a buffet service, there was plenty to eat. I would have been happy to book again with Shearings but living in Cornwall, this is unlikely.

Very well organised despite some challenges that were out of control. Hotel definitely NOT a 4 star, very tired bedrooms that need updating. Stained carpets for example. Kelvin, our tour guide was not great at all. Very condescending and unless you were ex military, you were treated as a 5 year old with him deciding when we could have information given to us as 'we'd probably forget it'. Upon speaking to guests on different coaches, their tour guides were great, so perhaps we drew the short straw. This was my first shearings holiday and will probably be my last unfortunately.
