Today, we travel by coach to the city of Nottingham, renowned for its connections to the Robin Hood legend and the majestic hilltop location of Nottingham Castle Museum and Art Gallery. Magic arrives with the Christmas market each year, turning the city into a winter wonderland filled with stalls, rides, an ice rink, and a delicious range of food and drink options. From the heart of the city, Old Market Square, shopping avenues branch out in all directions, making it easy to explore the array of shops. Why not visit one of the delightful cafés for lunch during your free time?
Afterwards, we head to the Theatre Royal to watch the fantastic Peter Pan Pantomime, starring Gok Wan, Denise Welch, Paul Chuckle, and Steve Hewlett! With stunning sets and amazing special effects, enjoy pure panto magic as we embark on a magical journey to Neverland alongside Peter Pan, Tinker Bell and the darling Children.
After the show, we return by coach to the hotel for dinner this evening.
After breakfast, we set off towards the Peak District for a scenic return journey aboard the Peak Rail. While you admire the rolling landscapes, enjoy a drink with mince pies.
After our return rail journey, we continue to Chatsworth House. A historically rich residence, Chatsworth has been the ancestral home to the Dukes of Devonshire for centuries. Its origins trace back to 1549 when Elizabeth and William Cavendish acquired the land for a sum of £600. This was Elizabeth's home, the Countess of Shrewsbury, better known as Bess of Hardwick. Over her eventful life, she married four times, and in the process, rose to a position of great power and wealth. With her marriage to William Cavendish, Treasurer of the King’s Chamber, they established Chatsworth as their home and had eight children. A later marriage to George Talbot, 6th Earl of Shrewsbury, saw Bess become Countess of Shrewsbury. Over the following generations, the house was transformed into what we see today.
On arrival, take your time to delve into its magnificent architecture and history before heading to the 105-acre garden to experience the light trail. Every festive season, Chatsworth House never fails to impress with its wonderful, themed Christmas display. Let yourself be mesmerised as you walk through beautifully decorated rooms, each one a sight to behold – you truly feel the magic of Christmas here at Chatsworth!
We return to our hotel for dinner this evening.
After breakfast, check out of the hotel and make your way home at leisure.
