For instance, the ancient Capitolium temple features beautiful Roman architecture and has incredibly well preserved marble floors, while the nearby Roman theatre is one of the largest to be found in this part of Italy. There are many other attractions in Brescia too, which we’ll be able to tour at leisure while spending free time in the city.

    Lake Como
    En Route: Como Town

During our journey, we’ll stop off in the lovely city of Como, which is placed close to the shores of Lake Como. This attractive city is filled with interesting attractions which we’ll be able to tour during our time there. For instance, we’ll be able to visit the historic Como Cathedral, the Romanesque San Fedele church, the Basilica of Sant'Abbondio and many other sights, all the while enjoying the marvellous scenery in the area.

    Borromean Gulf
    Full Day: Borromean Islands

The unique Borromean Islands, located off the coast of Stresa, are a highly popular feature of the Italian Lakes. We’ll take the time to explore the wonderful Isola Bella, with its ornate royal palace and gardens, and will also enjoy included entrance into the palace itself.

Undoubtedly the most famous of the Borromean Islands, Count Vitaliano Borromeo began the transformation in 1662 with the construction of the palace and the ornamental gardens.

The palace is full of ornate rooms, which are sure to remind you of a past full of grand receptions and sumptuous feasts. The most curious part of the palace is its grottoes; the walls are adorned with a mosaic of shells and pebbles and are a welcome retreat on a hot day!

We’ll also look forward to a visit to the island’s small fishing village, Isola Pescaton.

    OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS

    Verona
    Full Day: Verona
Verona is one of Italy’s most romantic cities, thanks to the fact that Shakespeare chose this city to set his romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliet. While the couple were purely fictional, there are many attractions which claim by local legend to have once set the scene for Romeo and Juliet. For example, there’s Juliet’s House, where we’ll find the balcony Romeo is said to have serenaded his love, as well as the Basilica di San Zeno where the two were supposedly married in secret. There’s also Juliet’s tomb, which is said to be located within San Francesco al Corso church.

Aside from this, there are many other attractions to enjoy in Verona, such as the Piazza delle Erbe, which was once the site of the Roman Forum in the city, and Lamberti Tower. There’s a Roman Theatre and Archaeological Museum to enjoy as well, and the impressive Verona Cathedral.

    Half Day: Villa Taranto

Situated on the shores of Lake Maggiore, the Gardens of Villa Taranto are simply marvellous. They’re the creation of Captain Neil Mc Eacharn, who moved to Italy from Scotland in 1931. He fell in love with the setting of the villa and had a passion for horticulture, and so chose to create one of the world’s most expansive and most intriguing botanical gardens.

Today, there are thousands of plants housed within the gardens, which surround the pretty Villa Taranto. Some of the many flowers that we’ll be able to find include dahlias, water lilies, lotus flowers, and many others, and the gardens are famous for their Davidia involucrate and Cornus Florida Rubra trees, which are some of the rarest examples in the world.

We’ll visit the gardens for a half-day tour in the afternoon, so we can enjoy the beautiful landscaping and flowerbeds.

    Limone and the lake
    Limone Lake Cruise

While we’re in Lake Garda, we'll get to take a superb Limone Lake cruise to see the beautiful landscape of the North lake. Limone is one of the most popular destinations on Lake Garda, thanks to its location on the north-western side of Lake Garda and its picturesque views.

As well as this, we’ll discover the ancient Roman baths, known as the Grotee di Catullo, which are the largest Roman baths in the north of Italy, and the intriguing hot springs located 200 metres from the. We conclude our cruise at Scaliger Castle, where we disembark.

The attractive small town of Sirmione stands at the tip of the peninsula that bears the same name, on the south shores of Lake Garda.
