    Cochem Transfer
Transfer into Cochem with time at leisure to explore this pretty little Moselle town. The old quarter is dominated by the late-Gothic imperial castle and is dotted with medieval squares and lovingly restored timber-framed houses – architectural gems typical of the Moselle region.

Admire the market square, the baroque town hall, the Martinsbrunnen (a feature of the town's historical water supply), St. Martin's Church, the former Capuchin monastery (now an arts centre) and sections of the old town walls, including the town gates.

    Rhine in Flames

This stunning pyrotechnic display is an experience not to be missed, which has enthralled visitors in their thousands for more than 50 years.

    OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS

    Beethoven Statue
    Bonn and Beethoven House

Once the capital of West Germany, Bonn lies on the banks of the river Rhine. The city is best known culturally as the birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven and is often referred to as ‘The Gateway to the Romantic Rhine’. Bonn is very much an atmospheric city with a rich culture. We explore this magnificent city on foot with our expert guide as we walk along Poppelsdorf to Bonn University, the former residence of the electors of Cologne.

We see the Minster cathedral, the Beethoven Monument, the market place and the old town hall.

At the end of our guided walk we head to the birth place of Ludwig van Beethoven – Bonngasse 18 – 26. Germany’s greatest composer was born in December 1770 and at the tender age of 12 he was already creating sonatas and symphonies which to this day form the basis of every good musical education. The Museum displays a representative selection from the trust’s collections, the largest privately-owned Beethoven collection in the world. Portraits, original manuscripts, instruments and everyday objects convey a lively and authentic glimpse into the life and work of the composer.

    Reichsburg Castle
    Cochem and Imperial Reichsburg
Join us on our guided walking tour as we explore the pretty little Moselle town of Cochem. The old quarter is dominated by the late-Gothic imperial castle and is dotted with medieval squares and lovingly restored timber-framed houses – architectural gems typical of the Moselle region.

We see the market square, the baroque town hall, the Martinsbrunnen (a feature of the town's historical water supply), St. Martin's Church, the former Capuchin monastery (now an arts centre) and sections of the old town walls, including the town gates.

We then continue to the mighty Reichsburg Castle. The castle perches on a rock 100 metres above the town of Cochem. Originally dating from the year 1,000, from 1868 to 1877 it was completely reconstructed and, since then, it has become the most-visited monument in the valley of the River Moselle.

There are many impressive things to see inside the Castle, including the Knights' Hall, the Weapon Room, the Hunting Room and the medieval ladies' rooms. The castle is well-equipped with Renaissance and Baroque furniture, weapons, armours, crockery and all kinds of beautiful decorations, including mural paintings.
