    Omaha Beach black and white
Normandy Coast & D-Day Landing Beaches

We will take a fascinating and enlightening tour of the major sites involved in D Day, one of the most important events of WWII. Guided by an expert on the role of Normandy in the Second World War, we’ll discover individual acts of heroism, how the battle on D Day played out and the effect it had on the wider war. Our tour begins at Pegasus Bridge over the Caen Canal, which was one of the major British objectives during D Day and one of the start points for the operation. We’ll continue from here, along the coast, visiting a number of the major flashpoints and sites that were part of the Normandy Landings.

    Rouen Guided Walking Tour

Today we visit the beautiful city of Rouen, capital of Normandy. The city has a rich history and we’ll see the main sites on a guided walking tour. The city’s most famous attraction is the Cathedral, a religious site has stood on this spot since the 4th Century and the incredible gothic building is beautiful both inside and out. It inspired a series of paintings by Monet, as well as containing a tomb within which lies the heart of Richard the Lionheart. We’ll also see ‘The Big Clock’, a 14th century astronomical clock, just around the corner from the cathedral. Finally we visit the Old Market, just across from the place where Joan of Arc was martyred, it is now marked by a wildflower garden.

    Fontainebleau Chateau

One of the largest palaces in France, Fontainebleu was home to numerous monarchs throughout the years. This means it’s been expanded extensively over time, which only adds to its unique quality as it features many different architectural styles.

Parts of the original chateau date from the 12th century, while the most recent parts were worked on in the mid-19th century. There are more than 1,500 rooms at the palace, many of which are closed off to the public, but those that are open are sure to astound.

There are many apartments available to view, such as the two Marie Antoinette boudoirs, the Papal apartment, the guest apartments of the court of Napoleon III and more. There are also four museums at the palace, and a number of collection masterpieces, such as Napoleon’s throne, Marie Antoinette’s bed, and the Duke of Orleans’ commemorative wedding cabinet.

We explore the picturesque port of Honfleur. Many artists have been attracted to Honfleur, known as one of the cradles of impressionism, and today there are numerous art galleries to browse around. A distinctive landmark is the 15th-century church of Sainte-Catherine which is made completely out of wood. As a still active fishing port, you will no doubt see fishermen coming to and fro in the harbour and this all adds the quaint feeling of the town.

    Paris by night
    Illuminated Paris

We take a night time tour of Paris, a city that becomes even more magical after dark. From the Champs Elysees and the Arc de Triomphe to the Eiffel Tower the whole city glows with beautiful lights. Along the Seine the beautiful bridges that cross the river are lit to reveal all of their wonderful features and the magnificent Notre Dame Cathedral stands out like a beacon. We’ll see some of these fantastic sights and get a real feel for this city on this wonderful tour.

    Monet's Garden
    Monet’s Garden

A real treat for art lovers today as we visit Monet’s former home at Giverny. Claude Monet created his huge water lilies series of paintings here, his intention was to make the viewer feel as though they were in his garden with him, you have the chance to see if he succeeded by comparing the paintings to the real thing! Monet lived at the house for over 40 years at the end of his life and created the gardens here with the sole purpose of painting them, so in some ways they are an extension of his work. While here we’ll have the chance to visit the Clos Normand, the flower garden in front of the house and the water gardens which contain the famous Japanese bridge, centerpiece of a number of Monet’s paintings.
