Join us for a wonderful holiday to Germany, discovering some of the finest castles and palaces this historical country has to offer. With something for everyone, Germany is filled with excellent sights, and from our base in Langenau, we’ll be able to discover some of them.
First, we’ll discover Hohenzollern Castle, the ancestral home of the House of Hohenzollern, situated atop Hohenzollern Mountain and overlooking the towns of Hechingen and Bisingen. This imposing castle is the third to be placed here, with the original castle dating from the 11th century. Today’s castle was constructed from 1454 and makes for a fascinating place to visit, with many artefacts and interesting items on display.
Onwards then to Munich, the capital and largest city in Bavaria. We’ll spend the day exploring this magnificent city, famous for its exciting atmosphere, historical sights and excellent architecture.
We’ll then visit enchanting Neuschwanstein Castle, commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a private retreat. King Ludwig was notoriously reclusive, and insisted that the castle’s design reflect the height of architectural romanticism.
This magnificent holiday showcases some of Germany’s most beautiful castles, as well as allowing us to soak up Bavaria’s stunning scenery.
Day One - UK to Belgium
We’ll make our way from the UK to Belgium, via Calais, and will spend the night at a comfortable hotel.
Day Two - Belgium to Langenau
In the morning, we’ll continue our journey into Langenau, where we’ll stay at the Jagerhaus Hotel for the next six nights. (B,D)
Days Three to Seven - Langenau
Spend the following five days in charming Langenau. Join us on our fantastic included excursions, as we visit the beautiful Hohenzollern and Neuschwanstein castles, as well as taking a trip to vibrant Munich. (B,D)
Day Eight - Langenau to Belgium
Our holiday draws to a close today, as we say goodbye to Langenau and travel to our overnight hotel in Belgium. (B,D)
Day Nine - Belgium to UK
We’ll return to the UK today, travelling via Calais and then continuing home. (B)
Full Day: Hohenzollern Castle
Discover magnificent Hohenzollern Castle, the ancestral seat of the Prussian Royal House. During our excellent excursion, we will explore the grounds, take in the views and enjoy a tour of the royal chambers.
Hohenzollern Castle overlooks the towns of Hechingen and Bisingen and enjoys an incredible position in the foothills of the Swabian Alps. Soak up the splendid views and explore this fascinating sight, known for its romantic architecture.
Full Day: Munich
The lively capital of Bavaria, located at the foot of the Alps, is a delight to explore. There’s so much to see and do in this incredible city - discover the historical old town, where you can visit the bustling Marienplatz square, or simply admire the city’s incredible architecture with a stroll along the Munich’s bustling streets.
Or, why not visit one of Munich’s famous Bierkellers, or try some of Bavaria’s traditional cuisine from one of the many cafes or street vendors. Bavaria is well-known for its delicious dishes, with popular options including sausage, meats and cheese.
Full Day: Neuschwanstein Castle
Today we visit the fairy-tale castle of Neuschwanstein, King Ludwig’s most outlandish creation, brimming with turrets and pinnacles. The castle was built as a private refuge in the mountains and has appeared in several movies, as well as being the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty's castle at Disneyland.
Full Day: Rothenburg
Spend time in beautiful Rothenburg today, located on Bavaria’s famous ‘Romantic Road’. Known for its medieval setting, Rothenburg is a walled city, almost untouched by time. Here you will find the local speciality food Schneeball, or snowball, as well as the German Christmas Museum, offering a year round festive feeling.
