Whether you want to walk in the countryside, visit cosmopolitan Newcastle, go fishing in the River Tyne or simply relax in the recently refurbished leisure club, The George Hotel is an ideal base for a Northumberland holiday.
The hotel is a short walk away from Chesters Roman Fort and Museum and just a few miles away from other historic sites associated with Hadrian’s Wall. Take advantage of the opportunity to go fishing in the River Tyne with the hiring of equipment possible from the hotel.
There’s also the opportunity to discover fantastic countryside and astounding scenery on one of the many fantastic trails into Northumberland National Park. Otherwise take in the history, beautiful architecture and great shopping and entertainment of Newcastle, just over half an hour’s drive away or just over an hour by public transport.
The hotel has a wonderful modern restaurant with a tasty menu that varies daily as well as a tranquil lounge and bar, perfect for an after dinner drink. If you feel like unwinding after a long day exploring the many local attractions then visit the hotel’s leisure club where you can swim in the pool or relax in the jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.
We enjoy an excursion to Durham, in the ‘Land of the Prince Bishops’, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During free time take the chance to see and explore the magnificent cathedral, Norman castle, medieval streets and riverside walks which all combine to make an unforgettable visit. Or hire a pleasure boat and take a trip along the river for great views of the city from a different perspective.
