Day One: UK to France
We’ll travel from the UK to France, via Calais, checking into a comfortable hotel for an overnight stay.
Day Two: France to Hergiswil
In the morning, we’ll journey onwards into Switzerland, calling en route at the vibrant city of Basel, where we will have time to explore the beautiful Christmas markets centred around the ancient centre of the city on the legendary River Rhine. Afterwards we continue to Hergiswil, perfectly set on a lake between Zurich and Bern for our four night stay. (B,D)
Day Three: Zurich
Today we’ll travel to the city of Zurich, where you will have free time to explore this beautiful city. The main Christmas markets are in the Old Town, the most picturesque area of the city and are marked by a 15 metre tall Christmas tree, which along with the many other decorations in this part of town give the place a very Christmassy feel. Day Four: Hergiswil
Today is at leisure in and around the resort in the town of Hergiswil. If you want to visit Lucerne it is less than 10 minutes away by train and the station is just a short walk from where we will be staying. Lucerne is a majestic little city at the mouth of the River Reuss, its most famous sight is the Kapellbrucke or Chapel Bridge, the oldest wooden bridge in Europe. (B,D)
Day Five: Bern
Today we visit the capital city of Switzerland, Bern. Enjoy free time to explore the city including the Christmas market which gives you a great chance to discover the city’s UNESCO World Heritage listed Old Town at the same time. (B,D)
Day Six: Hergiswil to France
This morning, we depart Switzerland and travel to France, where we stay overnight. (B,D)
Day Seven: France to UK
We’ll travel back to the UK today, via Calais, and will then continue home. (B)
Zurich Christmas Markets
We visit the vibrant city of Zurich for time to explore and browse the festive market stalls. Look in the foyer of the main train station, where there are traditional stalls as well as a sparking Christmas tree, decorated with Swarovski crystal snowflakes. Take a stroll to the lovely old town and savour some of the seasonal foods on offer.
Basel Christmas Markets
We’ll call at the city of Basel, a city on the border of Switzerland, France and Germany. Take a walk along the bustling streets and see some of the festive stalls around Barfusserplatz, where you can try some of the traditional Swiss cheese treats, such as fondue or raclette.
Bern Christmas Markets
Join us as we visit the charming Swiss capital of Bern. Enjoy a stroll along the narrow streets and winding alleys of the city and soak up the festive atmosphere at the little stalls around the Cathedral Square and Waisenhausplatz. Look out for regional crafts and enjoy the scents of traditional gingerbreads and mulled wine.
