Step back in time and appreciate the delights of the medieval city of Bruges, with its enchanting narrow streets and alleys, tree-lined canals and splendid architecture. This wonderful location is famous for its architecture, sights and stunning location, and we’ll get to enjoy all this and more during our time here.
We’ll have two included excursions to look forward to, which will allow us to further explore this location. We’ll enjoy a full day spent in Antwerp - make the most of time at leisure to explore this magnificent destination. We’ll then sit back and relax with a scenic drive along the coast to Ostend, known for its picturesque scenery and excellent seaside.
Day One - UK to Bruges
Travel across to Calais, then on to our hotel, the Novotel Bruges Centrum, our base for the next four nights. (D)
Day Two to Four - Bruges
We spend three days in the picture perfect city of Bruges, with two included excursions to see some of Belgium's finest cities as well as the opportunity to enjoy even more places on included excursions.
We visit the city of Antwerp, one of Lonely Planet's top 10 cities in travel for 2018. Some of the must-see attractions are the Cathedral of Our Lady, the Grote Market and the trapped in time Vlaeykensgang Alley. While here you can join our optional guided tour of the city for a more in depth look at the attractions of Antwerp.
We travel to the coast and visit Ostend, the beach resort always has plenty of exhibitions and attractions on and there's also a chance to learn about the history of the town and its role in both world wars.
There are two further optional excursions to join up with, one is a trip just over the border to the town of Sluis in The Netherlands. You can also join a guided tour of Bruges, giving you an introduction to the marvellous city in which we're staying.
Bruges, and its centre, close to where we are staying in particular is one of the best preserved cities in Europe and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Simply walking around here is part of the cities attraction and is something you could do for hours on end, simply discovering the little intricacies of the town. (B,D)
Day Five - Bruges to UK
We retrace our steps back to Calais, returning to the UK and continuing home. (B)
Novotel Bruges Centrum
Well-located within walking distance of the city’s main sights and attractions, the Novotel Centrum has a pleasant bar and inviting restaurant. The hotel also has a garden with heated swimming pool.
Full Day: Antwerp
Antwerp, with its attractive architecture and excellent history is a fantastic place to visit, and we’re sure to enjoy our day spent there. We’ll be able to look forward to everything from shopping to visiting attractions, and there’ll be time to enjoy lunch at one of the many cafes or restaurants in the city as well.
There are a number of ‘must-see’ sights in the city, such as the Cathedral of Our Lady, Rubens House, the Museum aan de Stroom (MAS) and the Museum Plantin-Moretus. We’ll be able to tour some of these attractions during our stay in the city, and will also be able to wander through the streets admiring the pretty architecture.
Half Day: Ostend
Enjoy free time to discover the wonderful Belgian seaside resort of Ostend, with its galleries, pretty pier, and impressive Sint-Petrus-en-Pauluskerk cathedral to discover. Explore at leisure to see the sights here.
Antwerp Guided Walking Tour
Enjoy a guided walking tour of Antwerp to see the main sights this fashionable city has to offer from the famous Cathedral to the Antwerp Central Station which is regularly high up in the best train stations in the world polls.
Bruges Guided Walking Tour
Bruges is a fascinating city, and we’ll be able to enjoy a guided walking tour of the city while we’re there. This will provide us with more information about the city, as well as showing us some of the most famous attractions and landmarks.
Half Day: Sluis
Visit the quaint Dutch town of Sluis on an optional excursion. Just over the border in the Netherlands Sluis has an attractive Gothic belfry and stone mill.
