Coach and transfers excellent. Hotel, old, tired, needs updating. Food terrible. Room overlooking bins etc. not good. Wheelie men come early to empty. Brakes van came early. The highlight was going on the steam train….it was not running. Village was on hill, old, tired, Goatland needs thinking about for passengers on zimmer frames and sticks. Nothing to do for hours on end. Boring. Pickering would have been a better option. Shops, cafes etc.

My holiday was very good, the only small disappointment was that the steam train wasn't running due to a previous fire caused by sparks from the train. So a diesel train was used, the carriages were still used though, which was good. Overall I enjoyed the holiday & have another one booked in August, many thanks!

We continue to come from Canada to vacation with Shearings every year, because we know that we will have a well organized efficient holiday, it means a lot to us that you have consistency.

Letter of concern posted a few days ago you Arthur Welch 27 Mayhall Court,Maghull,L31 0EB 07929374642 Booking reference WHO25262 Dear Sir, For over the past 30 years I have enjoyed holidays with Wallace Arnold then Shearings in the Western Isles,Llandudno,Oban,Windermere,IOW, Torquay, Melrose and Whitby without ever having any concern. On receiving your recent brochure, I spotted the holiday in Whitby and the North Yorkshire Moors railway. It was the latter that appealed to me. After the death of my wife 3 years ago and the fading of covid I decided for the first time to return to a coach holiday by myself. On Monday May 22 whilst travelling on the coach to Whitby the coach driver Steve went through the whole itinerary for the week giving the relevant coach leaving times. As I had visited Whitby before with Shearings and travelled many times independently to Whitby with my wife the only time that I needed to know was the departure time on Tuesday May 23rd for the railway trip. Steve the driver informed us that the coach would leave at 10.30am. On that Tuesday I arrived in the foyer of the hotel at 10.15 only to be told by the hotel receptionist that the coach had left at 10am. On Thursday morning I spoke to Steve and asked him if he was aware that I had not been on the coach, and he appeared not to know. I told him that he had said the coach would leave at 10.30 am. He said he had not said 10.30am but had said 10.15 am. I said yet you still left at 10 am. On Wednesday morning I was told by other passengers that late on Monday evening in the BAR area Steve had told them the coach would now leave at 10 am and not 10.30am. I do not drink and had gone to bed having been up from 6am that Monday The driver had made no attempt to inform me of the change of time. I confirmed with 3 other guests that Steve had said that the leaving time was 10.30 am. A lady from the Southport area who had heard about me told me that she had spoken to Steve and suggested to him that a printed information notice giving relevant leaving times put on a notice board would have been helpful. Another carrier Caledonian Travel staying at the Royal Hotel had a clear typed notice giving their daily departure times To say the least I was extremely disappointed to have missed this trip as it was the main reason for me to apply. Would I travel with Shearings again? YES I WOULD. Best wishes, W.A.Welch

Had to stay too long in some of the villages. The train ride should have been steam engine but that had broke down. The breakfast was good but evening meals were barely average
