Day One: Home to Weston-super-Mare
We’ll make our way from the interchange to Weston-super-Mare, where we’ll check in to The Grand Atlantic and will enjoy an evening meal. (D)
Days Two to Four: Weston-super-Mare
We spend the next three days in the lively resort of Weston-super-Mare during which time we will explore Somerset on two included excursions.
We take a trip on the West Somerset Railway taking in the majestic scenery of this area of the country while enjoying a delicious cream tea along the way. We will also visit Sheppy’s cider farm along the way.
We also travel to the beautiful village of Cheddar, close to magnificent Cheddar Gorge with its unique selection of ecology including various birdlife and even mountain goats.
The other day is reserved for free time in Weston-super-Mare. Weston-super-Mare has a huge array of attractions to keep you entertained, whether you want to walk along the coast or just relax at the seafront there’s sure to be something to keep you entertained. The hotel’s close proximity to the town’s train station means that you can be in Bristol or Taunton, in half an hour. (B,D)
Time to say goodbye today; we depart after breakfast and make our way to the interchange before returning home. (B)
Grand Atlantic Hotel
Stay with us at a hotel that harks back to the glory days of the traditional British seaside resort in the beautiful and imposing turreted Grand Atlantic Hotel.
The hotel is located in the heart of Weston-super-Mare, just off Marine Parade, with spectacular views over the sea. The Grand Pier is just a five minute walk away along the pretty streets, lined with cafes, pubs and restaurants.
Weston-super-Mare train station is just a 10 minute walk away and from there you can get a direct connection to Bristol in just half an hour. Or explore the majesty of the Mendip Hills which begin just outside of town, the pretty town of Cheddar can be reached by a half hour drive or hour long bus ride.
In the hotel you can enjoy delicious meals from a varied menu all prepared by our wonderful chefs and served in our modern restaurant. The hotel also has multiple room options including superb superior and standard plus rooms which offer even more comfort and space as well as spectacular views out over the water.
Full Day: West Somerset Railway including cream tea
Excursion calling at Sheppy’s Cider Farm, with a new, extensive shop with cider tasting available and a whole range of Somerset produce on offer. From here we continue and board the West Somerset Railway, enjoying a delicious cream tea long the way.
Half Day: Cheddar
We’re off to Cheddar today! The village is home to the very English Cheddar Cheese, and situated next to Cheddar Gorge, an awesome ravine which cuts through the limestone of the Mendip Hills. The town itself has a number of historic churches including the 14th century church of St Andrew. In the centre of the town you will see the market cross which dates as far back as the 15th century and used to mark the town’s square.
