Enjoy a day out aboard the West Somerset Railway, the longest heritage railway in England! The route meanders through the pretty scenery of the Quantock Hills to the popular seaside resorts on the coast and we include a delightful cream tea on board.
Day One: Home to Weston-super-Mare
We’ll make our way from the interchange to Weston-super-Mare, where we’ll check in to The Grand Atlantic and will enjoy an evening meal. (D)
Days Two to Four: Weston-super-Mare
We spend the next three days in the lively resort of Weston-super-Mare during which time we will explore Somerset on two included excursions.
We take a trip on the West Somerset Railway taking in the majestic scenery of this area of the country while enjoying a delicious cream tea along the way.
We also travel to the beautiful village of Cheddar, close to magnificent Cheddar Gorge with its unique selection of ecology including various birdlife and even mountain goats.
The other day is reserved for free time in Weston-super-Mare. Weston-super-Mare has a huge array of attractions to keep you entertained, whether you want to walk along the coast or just relax at the seafront there’s sure to be something to keep you entertained. The hotel’s close proximity to the town’s train station means that you can be in Bristol or Taunton, in half an hour. (B,D)
Time to say goodbye today; we depart after breakfast and make our way to the interchange before returning home. (B)
Grand Atlantic Hotel

Weston-super-Mare train station is just a 10 minute walk away and from there you can get a direct connection to Bristol in just half an hour. Or explore the majesty of the Mendip Hills which begin just outside of town, the pretty town of Cheddar can be reached by a half hour drive or hour long bus ride.

Half Day: Cheddar
We’re off to Cheddar today! The village is home to the very English Cheddar Cheese, and situated next to Cheddar Gorge, an awesome ravine which cuts through the limestone of the Mendip Hills. The town itself has a number of historic churches including the 14th century church of St Andrew. In the centre of the town you will see the market cross which dates as far back as the 15th century and used to mark the town’s square.
