The heart of the manor dates to before the Norman invasion. It’s mentioned in the 1086 Doomsday Book. There is a 19th century church in the grounds, open for services, housing the brocade cloth from the Queen’s coronation altar in 1953. Frequently visited by Lord Nelson, one of Britain’s greatest naval heroes, with his mistress Lady Hamilton. Charlotte Nelson (Lord Nelson’s niece) is buried in a vault within the church. Set within 160 acres, guests can enjoy splendid parkland, colourful gardens, lakes and a unique woodland area. The hotel boasts excellent facilities, with an indoor swimming pool, sauna and steam room, as well as The Tree Tops restaurant which features a varied menu focusing on worldwide cuisines and British favourites.
