Of course there are plenty of shops that are perfect for some shopping in the post-Christmas sales, and many restaurants and pubs to enjoy.

Day 3: Day at leisure or Durham
Relax in Chollerford, or join our optional excursion to Durham, which Bill Bryson called ‘a perfect little city’. The magnificent cathedral, Norman castle and the Durham Museum and Heritage Centre are all worth visiting, but simply strolling through the medieval streets is a joy in itself.
