Today we visit Salisbury, whose history dates back to the nearby Iron Age fort and retains much of its historic past with timbered buildings and weekly market every Tuesday and Saturday. The town is most famous for its cathedral, the tallest medieval structure in the world.

At this time of year, authentic German-style wooden chalets pop up in Salisbury’s Market Place, home to traders from across the country selling the traditional festive foods and hand-crafted gifts.

We return back to the hotel in time for our 'Christmas Dinner' complete with a complimentary glass of wine.

Shoppers may prefer to browse the central pedestrianised area with its arcades of shops, whilst history-lovers may prefer a visit to the Dorset County Museum or the Keep Military Museum. Booked on line after ringing for some more info. Call centre helpful and pleasant. Website booking form a bit awkward at accepting telephone numbers.

I really enjoyed myself, I was a bit nervous before hand first time I have been away without a family member, but I do make friends easily so settled in really good. My room had a sea view it was perfect, beautiful. The bed was so comfortable, I probably had one the best sleeps the first night, but the rest of the week was fine too. i only had one problem when I went to eat in the restaurant I had ordered soup with a bread roll, well it was rock hard, well I put that down as an error of judgement on their part.

We love travelling with them and have already booked a few more holidays in the near future!
