  • Day 3: Day at leisure of Isle of Seil

Relax in Oban or join our optional excursion to the Isle of Seil. This tiny Hebridean island is connected to the mainland by the thinnest of channels which is spanned by a delightful humpback bridge, known as the ‘Bridge over the Atlantic’. Just over the bridge is the historic Tigh an Truish Inn, the name of which means ‘house of the trousers’ and comes from the period after the 1745 rebellion when many Scottish traditions were banned, so it was here that islanders heading for the mainland would change from their kilt into trousers. This tiny island boasts lovely views, and has picturesque villages to explore.

Sitting on the western shore of Loch Fyne since 1745, when it was established by the 3rd Duke of Argyll, head of Clan Campbell, the town has a long history and many fine Georgian buildings. Explore at your own pace, perhaps visiting the neoclassical church, or the Jail which is now an award-winning museum that tells of the lives of prisoners throughout the centuries. Venture just outside of the town and you will find Inveraray Castle which remains the family home of the Dukes of Argyll to this day and is set in extensive grounds. We return to the hotel for a festive cream tea.
