Local departure by coach or Home Connect service and continue to Liège for four nights.
We spend the day exploring Liege and later, browse the charming Christmas Markets. Belgium’s largest Christmas Market, the Liège Christmas Village, displays the influences of its neighbours, with traditional Germanic goods and fare, in the very heart of the city. Immerse yourself in the magical and fairy-tale atmosphere of this special time of year. Located around Place Saint-Lambert, the streets of Liège are lined with markets stalls and Walloon and French artisans are ready to show you their delightful products.
We head into the Netherlands today, to the charming town of Valkenburg. Experience the festive excitement of the Christmas market in the Town Cave (Gemeentegrot) - the oldest underground Christmas market in Europe. The ancient galleries are filled with Christmas music and decorated with lights and traditional stalls selling all kinds of festive gifts, creating a truly magical atmosphere. You may also wish to visit the Christmas market in the Velvet Cave (Fluweelengrot - entrance extra approximately €10 per person). This Christmas market leads you on a circular route through an underground pathway lined with stalls, all tucked into niches in the rock
After a leisurely morning in Liege and time for a spot of lunch, join our included excursion into Germany and to Aachen. Aachen’s historic Old Town is perfect for visitors to stroll around. Here you can discover the charm of the narrow lanes and historic squares and be inspired by almost 2000 years of history. Every year in the weeks prior to Christmas the squares and alleys around Aachen’s town hall are transformed into a festive paradise of brilliant illumination and colourful splendour. The range of goods offered is overwhelming: from grand precious objects down to the modest trinket; from the most impressive gifts down to everyday utensils…it is no wonder that the Aachen Christmas Market has long since become a must for all the town's inhabitants and visitors alike!
Today we return home.

This was a good holiday, the downside was out tour bus. Having had a wonderful coach pick us up, which was comfortable with lots of legroom, when we changed buses at the interchange , we had a sub standard coach. It was very cramped, not the cleanest & having paid for the front seats so I had extra legroom we had alot less than our feeder coach. Danny our driver & Tracey our hostess were absolutely wonderful throughout our entire tour. Our 1st market was changed & it was a waste of time as it was more of a funfair for kids, so had to try & find something to occupy our time for over 4 hours on Hasselt. Valkenburg market in the cave was amazing, & the town was also lovely to look around. Aachen in Germany was also amazing but didn't have as much time to look around, which was a shame. The upside was when we arrived back oat our coach we were informed that there was a Lindt factory shop nearby & we were allowed to visit it, so that was brilliant. Both of the channel crossings were good & we had a free meal in both directions. We sailed into & out of Dunkirk. The hotel in Liege was superb, it used to be a monastery & it has kept alot of the original features. The rooms were clean & comfy. The breakfast was alot more than what we were expecting. I would like to book another holiday with Shearings but the thought of having a cramped tour coach is putting me off.

Our first coach holiday for a great many years. Excellent overall, although age of main coach was disappointing. Couriers exemplary. Tour too early in season, one advertised market wasn’t open, substitute market was not to the standard expected although town was excellent. Hotel excellent. Journey time a bit tiring although anticipated. Ferry very good, free meal voucher much appreciated

We loved Aachen and the cave market in Valkenburg. An impressive experience. Our tour guides Danny and Tracey were excellent. The hotel in Liege was clean, comfortable, with a lovely little bar and gorgeous restaurant. Breakfast was really good. Overall very happy and will definitely book another trip. We love Shearings holidays. They are great value and go to places we wouldn't necessarily book ourselves. A great way to see Europe.

We had a great time on this trip, Danny the coach driver and Tracey the courier were excellent and nothing was too much trouble for them. The Christmas markets were brilliant, but we would have liked a little bit more time in Aachen. We made some nice friends with the other passengers on the coach, all in all a fantastic trip

Very well organised, everything ran on time and was punctual. The drivers Danny and T were amazing very kind caring and kept everyone informed. Hotel was nice, clean and quiet. Didn’t go much on the breakfast compared to other European places we’ve stayed at and the dinners were always from elsewhere but again great location loved it! Only downside was leige not being open and was subbed with Hasselt was there for 6 hours and really could of been done in 3 but all in all had a great time and will definitely look to book with you again!
