Today, we visit the Scottish capital, Edinburgh. We include entrance to Edinburgh Castle, a must-see icon of Scotland with the oldest parts of the site dating back to the 11th century. A royal residence until the 16th century and birthplace to James VI, this imposing castle sits upon Castle Rock and boasts magnificent views of the city.
After a visit to the castle, you will have free time to explore the sights. Why not wander down the famous Royal Mile or Princes Street, indulge in a spot of shopping, or simply admire the architecture of this beautiful city?
Today, we enjoy a unique experience with a Scottish whisky distillery tour. You will be guided through the production areas, learning the whisky making process as you go along. You will find out how they use local barley to distil Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Kerr’s Gin, and Puffing Billy Steam Vodka. The guided tour will take you through the mashing, fermentation, and distillation hall and, of course, the tour will end with a sample in the distillery bar.
We will return to the hotel in the afternoon to allow you time to enjoy the facilities. Why not go for a swim, indulge in a spa treatment (extra charges may apply, please pay locally) or take a walk in the stunning grounds before dinner?
Today, we visit one of Scotland's gems – Rosslyn Chapel. Founded in 1446 by Sir William St Clair, the chapel is described as ‘a treasure in stone’ due to its magnificent ornate stonework and intricate carvings. The beauty of its setting and the mysterious symbolism that surrounds the site has made it an inspiration for the best-selling novel ‘The Da Vinci Code,’ with its links to the Holy Grail legend.
We then stop at the border town of Peebles, which straddles the River Tweed. Enjoy free time to walk by the river or explore the pretty town centre.
After breakfast, we depart for the journey home.
