Overview

Today you will explore the lower Moselle valley, where the vineyards cling to steep terraced slopes. We visit picturesque wine villages, with half-timbered houses, winding alleys and romantic wine-growing estates.

Firstly, we visit the romantic town of Cochem, which is dominated by the imperial castle. We continue by boat, including lock passage to Beilstein, the 'Sleeping Beauty' of the Moselle. This dreamy wine-growing village has retained its medieval atmosphere. The Moselle excursion is rounded off with an optional wine tasting.

Overview

Today we visit the mighty Father Rhine. Nowhere else in the world can you find such a high castle density as on the Rhine between Bingen and Koblenz. We head first to Koblenz, at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle, the German Corner.

Afterwards you continue to Kamp, from where we take a cruise to St. Goarshausen, passing the famous 'Loreley'. We disembark and rejoin our coach to continue to bustling Rüdesheim. A visit to the famous Drosselgasse is definitely worth it!

A good itinerary which includes the beautiful town of Cochem on the Moselle river. The hotel was comfortable and clean and offered good buffets for breakfast and the evening meal. The only disappointments were paying 20 euros for a wine-tasting session (advertised as 11.50 euros on the website) and a very long return drive to Calais via Reims, which added nearly 200km when compared to a more direct route.

A full schedule of a well thought out tour. The tour was slightly frustrated by German road closures. The drivers remained positive and cheerful.

The holiday and our 2 drivers Chris and Dean were great. The holiday was rather spoilt by the new home connect service which on our return had 13 people, some quite elderly and with mobility issues, driven for over 2 hours in a minibus around every potholed narrow lane in the High weald with not a single drop off. A decent road nearer the coast would have been quicker and more comfortable especially as most people were travelling to the Eastbourne area.

Booked on line after ringing for some more info. Call centre helpful and pleasant. Website booking form a bit awkward at accepting telephone numbers.

I really enjoyed myself, I was a bit nervous before hand first time I have been away without a family member, but I do make friends easily so settled in really good. My room had a sea view it was perfect, beautiful. The bed was so comfortable, I probably had one the best sleeps the first night, but the rest of the week was fine too. i only had one problem when I went to eat in the restaurant I had ordered soup with a bread roll, well it was rock hard, well I put that down as an error of judgement on their part.

My husband and I have had several holidays with Shearings and find them a first rate company, they are always wonderfully polite and helpful and do everything within their power to give you a fantastic holiday! We love travelling with them and have already booked a few more holidays in the near future!
