Reims, Champagne and Metz Christmas Markets

Local departure by coach, then onwards through France to Chalons-en-Champagne for a four-night stay.

The Christmas markets in Reims are among the most atmospheric in France – large, lively, and set against a backdrop of historic architecture and Champagne culture. With live entertainment, a festive village feel, and the grandeur of the illuminated cathedral nearby, Reims Christmas Markets combine tradition, elegance and holiday cheer in a truly memorable setting. Unlike typical markets, Reims features local and independent champagne producers in specialised chalets, allowing you to pair your holiday shopping with a glass of bubbly.

Today, we travel to Épernay where we have some free time. A short walk from the centre brings us to the famous Avenue de Champagne, the heart of Épernay’s identity. Wide, grand, and lined with stately mansions, it’s home to the legendary Champagne houses. Strolling along the avenue gives you a sense of history and prestige—ornate gates, manicured gardens, and plaques marking centuries-old producers. We will visit one of these famous houses and enjoy a guided tour of the cellars followed by a tasting.

Enjoy the local markets in Chalons-en-Champagne or alternatively, join our optional excursion to the charming French town of Metz. Spread across five historic squares, the markets here feel like a series of connected villages, each with its own charm. Wooden chalets line the streets, selling handcrafted gifts, decorations, and regional treats, while the scent of mulled wine, gingerbread, and local specialities fills the air.

Enjoy a stroll around the historic town centre and see the food specialities on Place de Chambre or enjoy the traditional market and 17-metre ‘Christmas Pyramid’ on Place St. Louis.
