Itinerary

Day One: Home to Paignton  
We’ll make our way from the interchange to Paignton, where we’ll check in to the Bay Esplanade Hotel and will enjoy an evening meal. (D)

Days Two to Seven: Paignton  
We spend the next six days enjoying lovely Paignton on Tor Bay in the English Riviera, with three included excursions to some South Devon favourites.

We travel across Dartmoor National Park taking in the wild and windy moorland and the fantastic and varied wildlife of the area. We continue to Plymouth one of Britain’s most historic port cities where we will take a harbour cruise to discover the city form a different perspective.

Another packed excursion will see us taking in tranquil Buckfast Abbey, famed for its wine and the town of Totnes, which is said to have more listed buildings per head than any town in Britain. We finally call at Trago Mills where you will find an array of discount home and garden products.

Finally we visit the pretty town of Teignmouth before travelling to quaint St Marychurch to visit Bygones, a celebration of memorabilia and machines from times gone by.
You will have plenty of time to enjoy Paignton at your leisure. Visit Paignton Zoo or the pier, or further afield, Exeter is less than an hour away via an extremely scenic train ride. (B,D)

Day Eight: Paignton to Home

Time to say goodbye today; we depart after breakfast and make our way to the interchange before returning home. (B)

With fantastic views over nearby Paignton Beach and the centre of the town just a five minute walk away the Esplanade Hotel is the perfect location for a fantastic Cornish seaside holiday.

Paignton’s main beach is just a five minute walk from the hotel while Paignton Pier and quieter Goodrington Beach are both just a 10 minute walk away. The centre of the town has a number of great cafes, restaurants and bars selling fantastic and delicious food, great for relaxing and taking time out from a busy day of seaside fun, just a five minute walk from the hotel.

The town’s train station is a short walk away and from here you can reach the vibrant town of Torquay in 10 minutes and historic Exeter in less than an hour, driving times are similar. The station is also the start point for the Dartmouth steam railway, which will take you into the magnificent South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and along the River Dart to Dartmouth. The town is filled with beautiful pedestrianised streets, colourful houses and ancient churches with great views out across the river to the sea.

In the hotel you can enjoy delicious meals in the modern restaurant which operates a wide and varied menu. Enjoy evening entertainment in the Riviera Suite and for even greater comfort in your room as well as sea views over Tor Bay upgrade to a standard plus room.

Full Day: Dartmoor and Plymouth Harbour Cruise

We’ll enjoy an excursion across the wild landscape of Dartmoor as we journey towards Plymouth. The area is perhaps most famous now as the place where the Pilgrim Fathers embarked onto the Mayflower before crossing the Atlantic to North America, the Mayflower steps mark the spot where they last left British soil. Here we will take a cruise around the harbour to discover the city from a new perspective.

Full Day: Trago Mills, Buckfast Abbey and Totnes

We enjoy an excursion to Buckfast Abbey, set in a quiet wooded valley at the edge of Dartmoor National Park. See the magnificent Abbey church and tranquil grounds, with immaculate lawns and fine stone buildings. We continue to the charming riverside town of Totnes with its castle ruins and many interesting buildings. We will also call at Trago Mills where you will be able to pick up a bargain for your home or garden.

Half Day: Teignmouth (2018)

Jaunt to the pretty resort of Teignmouth.

Half Day: Bygones (2019)

We take a short trip to visit the fascinating 'Bygones' and take a nostalgic journey to Victorian times along the period street and gain an insight into wartime Britain.
