Today we visit one of England’s most historic cities, Canterbury has been welcoming pilgrims and visitors for centuries. At the heart of the city stands Canterbury Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important religious buildings in Europe. With its stunning architecture, stained glass, and long association with Thomas Becket it is a must see.
Beyond the cathedral, you can enjoy wandering through the historic city centre, with its cobbled streets, half‑timbered buildings, and vibrant mix of independent shops, cafés, and traditional pubs which is especially magical at the festive time of year. The Westgate Towers, medieval city walls, and riverside paths along the River Stour are all great ways to enjoy your free time.
We return to the hotel with plenty of time to get ready for tonight's festivities. We begin the evening with a sparkling drinks reception with canapes followed by 4-course New Year's Eve Gala Dinner and then a disco to countdown to midnight.
Enjoy a leisurely brunch today with plenty of free time to explore Folkestone. Take in the sea air, venture to the harbour and watch the New Year's Day swim. This annual swim is a highlight of the New Year celebrations in Folkestone, attracting participants from various backgrounds and communities.
Enjoy dinner this evening followed by a festive quiz and bingo in the hotel.
