Today we journey on the Settle-Carlisle Railway, one of the most scenic and impressive railways in the UK! The last great mainline railway to be built and completed for passenger travel in 1876, the building of the railway present tremendous challenges to traverse the landscape.

With 21 viaducts, 14 tunnels and 72 miles of track, it was advertised as the most picturesque route to Scotland, and the Victorian and Edwardian travelling public took it to their hearts. The route takes us over the impressive Ribblehead Viaduct and through the longest tunnel on the line at Blea Moor.

Today we enjoy a scenic drive to discover more of the stunning Yorkshire Dales. Our journey takes us northwards and high into the Pennines, where you can spot the famous Ribblehead Viaduct before we reach Hawes in Upper Wensleydale. Here, we visit the renowned Wensleydale Creamery. The Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese Experience starts with a cheesemaking demonstration and continues as a self-guided tour where you will learn about the thousand-year history of artisan cheesemaking in the Dales. We then have some free time in the shop and café before driving back through stunning natural beauty.

We make a stop in pretty Grassington, located in Upper Wharfedale. Grassington retains the charm of a traditional Dales village, with stone cottages, independent shops and a lively market square. Enjoy some free time before we journey back to Morecambe.
