We’ll begin with the Christmas markets in Metz, spending the day exploring at leisure. Metz is a lovely French city, set at the joining of the Seille and Moselle rivers and enjoying beautiful scenery.
Around Christmas time, this pretty landscape is highlighted by charming festive decorations, and a superb Christmas market comes to town. With its bright lights, festive atmosphere and the delicious scent of freshly cooked delicacies, we’ll have an amazing time at these markets.
Pick up some souvenirs or treat loved ones at home to unique gifts.
Our next included excursion will take us to nearby Luxembourg, where we’ll find a delightful Christmas scene. Each year, Luxembourg is transformed into a winter wonderland, with pretty lights and decorations, and its Christmas markets have something for everyone.
With stalls selling favourites from around Europe, including everything from Stollen to chocolate yule logs to cheeses, as well as handcrafted trinkets. Sample some of the pan-European delicacies available at the markets, including traditional Gluhwein (mulled wine), crepes, Mettwurscht and Thuringer sausages, and delicious Gromperekichelcher (potato fritters).
This morning, we travel to Trier, Germany’s oldest city, on our included excursion. Festively decorated little wooden huts offer a wide range of Christmas articles including decorations, wooden toys, candles, hand-blown glassware, ceramics, crafts and much more.
There are also plenty of tasty treats available such as bratwurst sausages, potato pancakes, sweets, hot tea and ‘glühwein’ to stave off the cold.
We’ll return to the UK today, travelling from Northern France via Calais and then continuing home.
