After breakfast today, it's time to explore Lake Windermere from the water! We make our way to the pier to embark on our morning cruise on the lake. Sit back, relax and take in the stunning views of mountain scenery, secluded bays and the many wooded islands.
We depart at Lakeside, on the bottom shores of the lake, and make our way to the train station. From here, we enjoy a ride on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway. A distant memory of bygone years for some and a new experience for others, it’s a unique way to see the beautiful scenery. Our coach will then return us back to the hotel to give you free time to relax or explore.
After breakfast, we depart and travel northwards further into the National Park. Stunning scenery awaits today as we travel to Keswick. Situated between the huge bulk of Skiddaw and the gentle beauty of Derwentwater, Keswick has become the major centre for tourism in the northern Lake District. This pretty market town offers a wide range of attractions for visitors, from shops and restaurants to museums. You will have free time to explore.
We travel back towards the southern lakes in the afternoon and stop at Grasmere, the home of William Wordsworth, to spend some time in one of the lakes most popular villages. Why not visit the famous gingerbread shop?We return back to the hotel in the afternoon and relax. After breakfast today, we visit one of Cumbria's grandest stately homes. Located between the hills of the Lake District and the sea, Holker Hall has never been sold throughout its 400-year history and is still the family home of Lord and Lady Cavendish. A tour of the house includes a visit to the elegant drawing room and ornate dining room. Climb the striking staircase, view portraits of Charles II and visit the bedroom where Queen Mary stayed in 1937.
The 23 acres of gardens have evolved over the 400-year history, with each generation of the family adding to the beauty and splendour. Enjoy a walk around the formal gardens to explore the varieties of flowers, shrubs and trees, including a Great Lime Tree.
Please note: There is wheelchair access throughout the site with the exception of the first floor of the Hall.
After breakfast, we journey home.
