The tiny, 2-sq mile Holy Island is home to some of the countries most fascinating historic tales and holds a religious significance that dates centuries. Connected to the mainland by a causeway that is only accessible at low tide, Lindisfarne is much the same as when St. Aidan founded a monastery here in 635AD.

We return to Newcastle along the coast, calling at pretty Seahouses along the way.

The only problem I had was booking on line. It took me 4 attempts as I kept getting blocked out at the booking conditions point.

Very easy to book by landline. which I prefer to booking on line. The lady I dealt with was very helpful and cheerful ! which makes a great deal of difference when you are 85 years old.
