Explore the historic city of Durham, where the dramatic skyline is dominated by the stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Cathedral and Castle. Bill Bryson called Durham 'a perfect little city' and with churches, chapels and cafés dotted throughout, the city has an illustrious, religious and tempestuous past that can be uncovered in many of its attractions.
We follow the route of Hadrian’s Wall, calling at the ancient market town of Hexham and visiting Chesters Roman Fort. Here, we learn more about what life was like on one of the Roman Empire’s most northern outposts and the most complete Roman cavalry fort in Britain.
Return home.
Please note: Chesters Roman Fort is closed in November so for tours departing during this time, the excursion will instead include a scenic drive along the route of Hadrian's Wall and free time in Hexham.

Hotel Leonardo in Newcastle is an excellent venue and I found it very comfortable. However I did find it rather noisy in the evenings as I found it difficult to hear what people were saying. Probably this is due to partly being deaf. The food I found was very good even though there were long waits sometimes before it came to the table. Of course there were many people there, but people were very friendly.

Driver snd coach trips were excellent . We would have liked yo spend more time near the Hadrian wall . We spent only 15 minutes Hotel was comfortable but dining room was packed and uncomfortable . In

Enjoyed the whole trip with one exception, stayed at a 4 star hotel which served an excellent breakfast, however. The evening meal was disappointing to say the least. Reminded me of school dinners, but my wife and I, do not think it was even up to that standard.
