After breakfast, we travel by coach to the Kentish Town of Tenterden. Nestled in the heart of the Weald of Kent, Tenterden is rich in history and has, by large, escaped much modern development, helping to retain its charm. From its broad, tree-lined High Street, you can see the distinctive tower of the 12th-century Parish Church of St Mildred.

During our visit to Tenterden, we enjoy a return journey on the Kent & East Sussex Railway. Relax in your carriage as your train journey meanders through the beautiful wintery Wealden countryside. The journey will take you to Northiam, where the steam engine will take water before winding back to Tenterden.

We return to the hotel this afternoon with time to relax and get ready for the New Year's Eve celebrations. In the evening, enjoy a glass of bubbly on arrival followed by a 5-course meal. After dinner, there will be a disco and dancing until late, with another glass of bubbly at midnight to welcome in the New Year.

Happy New Year! We start the day with a leisurely breakfast and a relaxed morning in the hotel.

Later, we board our coach and travel to Hever Castle for an afternoon visit. Hever Castle is a romantic 13th-century moated castle and the childhood home of Anne Boleyn. In 1903, it was bought by William Waldorf Astor who went on to restore and extend the castle and create the beautiful gardens. The castle was then filled with wonderful paintings, tapestries and furniture which are on display. The vast gardens are beautifully designed, with one of the most magnificent being the Italian garden, with its lovely sculptures and lake. Take a stroll through the Tudor Garden or make your way along Anne Boleyn’s walk. During the festive period, Hever Castle is adorned with trees and lights both inside and out, and you will see the beautiful traditionally decorated rooms with twinkling trees and welcoming log fires. After plenty of time to explore, we head back to the hotel for our evening meal.

Found the Front of House Manager Vicky (if she was) very rude and confrontational. Deeply disappointed that the lift was out of order and having to climb 4/5 flights of stairs to reach my room. Being almost 83 and having walking difficulties I had to make sure I had everything each morning to avoid going up the stairs unnecessarily. Chris the driver was very helpful and polite at all times and tried to cater for everyone's needs.

Had really nice time, met some lovely people and well looked after the Shearing's staff. Trips were both enjoyable and very informative, Would definitely recommend and will be booking again. An all round good value for money holiday.
