Today we take a trip to historic York. Discover the city’s Viking past at the Jorvik Viking Centre, explore 300 years of railway history at the National Railway Museum, or learn more about York’s sweet history at the Chocolate Story. Don’t miss the breathtaking York Minster – one of the largest cathedrals in Northern Europe and an incredible example of Gothic architecture.
Browse York’s many shops, from high street favourites to quirky and independent boutiques, along with excellent cafés, pubs and restaurants, and not forgetting the unusual Shambles, with its over-hanging timber-framed houses and traditional shop fronts.
Whilst we’re here, escape the hustle and bustle of the city and relax with a cruise on the River Ouse. A great photo opportunity to see the fascinating buildings, bridges and historic sights, and look for stunning wildlife including Kingfishers.
Relax in Harrogate, or join our optional excursion to Skipton, the ‘Gateway to the Dales’. This picture-perfect market town is home to a 900-year old castle. We then continue to Grassington, a beautiful village in Upper Wharfedale’s stunning scenery, with its bustling cobbled market square fringed by shops offering local food, specialty gifts and crafts.
with an extra experience
This morning we visit RHS Harlow Carr. Admire the water features, dry stone walls and wooded areas as we explore the colourful herbaceous borders, wildflower meadows and stream side walks. You may wish to follow the Sculpture Trail, stroll through the Scented Garden or the Main Borders, or enjoy a treat at the on-site Bettys Café Tea Room.
This afternoon, we continue to Harewood House, one of the finest stately homes in Britain. Once home to the Queen’s aunt and cousins, this Grade I listed property has been home to the Lascelles family since it was built in the 1760s. In more recent years, you might recognise it from ITV’s Victoria and Downton Abbey. Tuck into a delicious cream tea in the Terrace Tearoom with views over the rolling parkland, the perfect place to admire the stunning scenery.
Return home.
