Edinburgh Castle and The Scottish Borders

Built in 1536, the imposing Barony Castle Hotel is set in 25 acres of beautiful countryside and offers a warm Scottish welcome. Originally built for the Murrays of Blackbarony and steeped in history, one of the key highlights of the hotel is the ‘Great Polish Map of Scotland’ – a three-dimensional, outdoor concrete scale model of Scotland designed by Polish war veteran Jan Tomasik. From our base in the spectacular scenery of the Scottish Borders, we’ll visit historic Edinburgh and enjoy a tour of majestic Edinburgh Castle, explore the quaint town of Peebles, and take in the sights of Jedburgh. Ending the tour on a high, we discover the sumptuous interiors and beautiful gardens of Abbotsford House and Gardens.

This morning we take a trip to nearby Peebles. This beautiful Border Town straddles the River Tweed and was made a Royal Burgh in 1152. Stroll along the timeless high street with its range of independent shops, and meander the alleyways and medieval closes which have barely changed over the passing centuries.

Later, we return to the hotel where the remainder of the day is at leisure for you to relax.

Peebles

Overview

Join us on our included excursion to Jedburgh – known for its associations with Mary Queen of Scots. Up to the 17th century, the location of the town put it at the forefront of many Border battles; today it is a charming place to visit where colourful, renovated buildings flank the Market Place.

Our day continues as we visit Abbotsford House and Gardens. Abbotsford is the extraordinary home of Sir Walter Scott – the 'Great Scott' who popularised tartan, saved the Scottish banknote and rediscovered his country's Crown Jewels. We take a guided a tour here that will take us through the sumptuous interiors and into the beautiful gardens which form three 'outdoor rooms', before enjoying an included cream tea.

Having been on 5/6 trips with Sheerings in the past we booked , a trip to Paris for a four night break, the majority of the trip was enjoyable except , we all booked an .advertised trip paid the coach driver our money 56.00E. for a meal in Paris and a night tour round Paris.. The meal was very mediocre, but as we had a good group atmosphere all was going good. however when we all were back on the coach . the driver informed the tour coach 168 that he had decided that he was not doing the night tour round Paris, as it was too light still 8.00 at night, and that anyone that has any complaints should email shearings when they got back. his attitude appeared to have a menacing tone . after a little while , another passenger with slight autism stood up and asked why he wasn't going on the night trip, the answer he gave was there are 28 people on the coach and 27 are too tired to go out at night . he then proceeded to stand over the seated vulnerable adult with his arms outstretched and blocking the view of his family in what appeared to be intimidating telling this person not to spoil it for everyone. HE HAD ONLY ASKED WHAT OTHERS WERE THINKING. On return his mother rang the customer service line to be told that the drivers were out of time , had the driver said this it would have been more acceptable , but its a lot to advertise and charge people for and then intimidate them when they respond . well done sheerings ledger . never again will i stand by and allow you to ick on a vulnerable adult. we don't want financial recompense , just to let people know that if your expecting a night seeing the lights in Paris you may well be disappointed
