Today, we journey through the Cotswolds, enjoying a scenic drive past chocolate-box villages and rolling countryside. Our first stop is Stow-on-the-Wold, the highest town in the Cotswolds at around 800 feet, known for its rich history, antique shops and iconic market square. Make sure you take time to see the ancient tree roots growing around St Edward’s Church doorway.

Next, we stop at Moreton-in-Marsh, a thriving market town with a High Street lined by elegant 17th- and 18th-century buildings, and a traditional Tuesday market. Why not pop into The Cotswolds Cheese Company to pick up a few local treats?

Our final stop this afternoon is Broadway, often called the “Jewel of the Cotswolds” – a postcard-perfect village with honey-coloured stone buildings and a vibrant arts scene.

Today’s highlight is a visit to one of the UK’s most iconic stately homes. Still the home of the 12th Duke of Marlborough, Blenheim Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, famed for its grand Baroque architecture, sweeping landscaped grounds and its place in history as the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. See the richly decorated State Rooms, filled with tapestries, paintings and antiques, then head downstairs for an immersive exhibit that brings the lives of the palace servants to life. The formal gardens, designed by Capability Brown, are also included with our entrance ticket.

On our way back to the hotel this afternoon, we make a stop in the pretty town of Burford, often known as the “Gateway to the Cotswolds”. Its historic high street is lined with honey-coloured stone buildings, independent shops and cosy tearooms, making it a perfect place for a little wander and some afternoon refreshments.

Today, we visit one of the area’s best-known cider producers. Westons Cider was founded in 1880 and has a long family history of premium cider making. We enjoy a guided tour of the historic 17th-century farmhouse and cider mill, learning how their cider is made and hearing the story behind it. Afterwards, there’s time to sample a range of ciders in the tasting room, paired with a delicious ploughman’s lunch. There’s also the chance to browse the shop or say hello to the Shire horses, Reg, Jed and Buzz, who are often out in the paddock soaking up the sun.

This afternoon, we head to historic Gloucester on the River Severn. Roman in origin and rich in medieval character, the city blends ancient and modern beautifully. The magnificent cathedral has featured in film and TV, most famously in the Harry Potter films, and is also the burial site of King Edward II.

Please note: as this is a working cider mill, the tour includes steps and staircases and is, therefore, not suitable for wheelchairs. The tasting area, gift shop and restaurant are all accessible.
