Local departure by coach, then on to Morecambe and our hotel for four nights. We enjoy a mulled wine with a mince pie on arrival to get us into the Christmas spirit.
Today we visit the Lake District and the popular lakeside town of Bowness. Located between Waterhead and Lakeside on the shore of Lake Windermere, Bowness has a pleasant town centre and glorious setting, and is consequently one of the most visited towns in the Lake District. Enjoy time at leisure to admire the beautiful Victorian and Edwardian architecture, browse the local shops or relax and watch the boats sail by on the lake, the choice is yours!
Merry Christmas! Relax in Morecambe, open some presents, tuck into a traditional turkey dinner, and enjoy the festive atmosphere in the hotel with your fellow travellers.
This morning we visit the nearby city of Lancaster. The word ‘Lancaster’ translates as ‘Roman fort on the River Lune’. This original structure eventually evolved into the castle that still stands in the centre of the city, with much of local history focusing around this single building. The Priory Church is next to the castle, and was founded in 1094 and extensively remodeled in the Middle Ages. There are also lots of restaurants, cafes and historic pubs. The oldest pub in the city is The Three Mariners, which is steeped in history and is CAMRA award winning. Atkinsons Coffee is one of Britain’s most prestigious coffee merchants, with the original Coffee Shop & Roastery where they have been based for over 180 years, as well as four unique cafes throughout the city. We return to the hotel for a festive cream tea.
We depart the hotel this morning, filled with magical Christmas memories, and return home.
You will stay for four nights at the Strathmore Hotel in Morecambe.
