Christmas in Canterbury

Wander through medieval streets glowing with fairy lights and see how the timber-framed buildings are dressed for the season. The air carries that unmistakable mix of roasted chestnuts, mulled wine and cold winter stone. Canterbury at Christmas feels like stepping into a storybook. Journey on the Kent & Sussex Steam Railway on Christmas Eve with mulled wine and a visit from Santa, explore Canterbury with its stunning cathedral and Christmas market, and enjoy a Boxing Day visit to a typical seaside resort and take in the brisk sea air.

Local departure by coach or Home Connect service, then travel to Kent. On arrival, you will be welcomed with refreshments and cake while we check in. Tonight, relax and enjoy dinner.

This morning, we enjoy a fantastic festive experience on the Kent & East Sussex Steam Railway. We will take a 75min journey in festively dressed traditional carriages with a glass of mulled wine or hot drink, plus a visit from Santa!

This afternoon, you have free time in Canterbury to explore. You could visit the Christmas market or see the stunning cathedral. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Canterbury Cathedral is one of the largest and most iconic religious buildings in the UK. The town itself also offers a delight of independent shops and cafés.

Please note: if you wish to enter Canterbury Cathedral, you must purchase a ticket. To avoid disappointment, we advise arranging this advance. Tickets are subject to availability and, due to the time of year, may be very limited.

We return to the hotel for afternoon tea and time to relax. Dinner this evening will be followed by live entertainment.

Merry Christmas! We have a day at leisure in the hotel to relax and unwind. Built in the 1830s, the hotel has lost none of its charm and elegance, and is set in two acres of beautiful, landscaped gardens. We enjoy a traditional Christmas lunch and, if you'd like, you can watch the King's Speech in the Westfield Bar. This evening, there will be a buffet-style dinner and in-house entertainment.

After breakfast, we head to the coast and get some sea air. We will stop at Margate, a traditional seaside town on the Kent coast. Its promenade is perfect for a Boxing Day walk, and you could watch (or join!) the brave souls that brace the traditional Boxing Day swim. Warm up in one of the cafés or pubs along the seafront.

We return to the hotel in the afternoon for a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie. Dinner this evening will be followed by live entertainment.
