Since the Middle Ages, Chartres has been an important centre of work around light and stained glass. Master glassmakers' workshops have been established here and have built up an international reputation. Their know-how has been passed on from generation to generation and remains a reference today. Enjoy a full day exploring the sites and also enjoy a visit to Versailles, home to the famous château, and discover the many fountains and pools, some of which are fine examples of sculpture, as they're lit up with the Musical Fountains Show.

Local departure by coach, then to the Chartres area for a three-night stay
Enjoy some free time to explore the historic city of Chartres on the River Eure, south-west of Paris. The Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Chartres is the city’s most famous landmark and its distinctive stained-glass windows and their famous Chartres blue are well known worldwide. They constitute the largest set of glass panels from the 12th and 13th centuries in Europe. However, it’s not just the Cathedral waiting to be discovered in Chartres, it’s also their local gastronomic specialities too. Sweet treats with the crunch of a macaroon, the melt-in-your-mouth Mentchikoff, the originality of the stained-glass sugar of Chartres and the savoury Belsia chips, are all perfect for an apéritif. Also, be on the lookout for the Terres d’Eure-et-Loir label of good quality local produce.
Return to the hotel for the evening meal, before heading back into the centre to see more than 20 heritage sites, including the illuminated cathedral. This incredible sight is sure to take you on a journey through time and space and plunge you into a colourful, magical world.
After a leisurely breakfast, we visit Versailles, home to the famous château and beautiful gardens. Located on the western outskirts of Paris and originally created for Louis XIV, the Château of Versailles has been a member of the UNESCO World Heritage list for over 30 years. At Versailles, enjoy the heart of the French gardens and admire the magnificent gardens to the rhythm of Baroque music as we come across a thousand statues, sometimes hidden masterpieces or topiaries hand carved by Château de Versailles’s gardeners. Also, be sure to see the fountains of the Water Theater Grove, the Mirror Pool and the Neptune Pool, a magnificent water feature using modern techniques throughout the day.
