The city of Cologne offers some enchanting festive stalls, with the market set in front of the imposing cathedral being the most impressive. Beneath the largest Christmas tree in Rhineland, you will find 160 attractively designed pavilions.
Here, you can choose from numerous sweet delicacies, watch artisans at work, and enjoy the 'original Christmas mulled wine'.
Every year four weeks before Christmas the square and streets around Aachen town hall and cathedral are transformed into a paradise of lights and colours, festive sounds and seductive smells. A strong atmosphere of Christmas dominates one of Germany's largest and most beautiful festive markets.
Be sure to try the local speciality gingerbread, Aachen Printen.
Today, we head into Holland to the quaint Dutch town of Valkenburg, to the Town Cave (Gemeentegrot); where the wonderful underground Christmas market is the largest and oldest of its kind in Europe.
Enjoy this unique setting as we soak up the seasonal atmosphere and browse the stands. You can also experience the Christmas market in the Velvet Cave (Fluweelengrot- entrance extra approximately €10 per person).
