Peak District and The Gilbert & Sullivan Festival
This Victorian operatic duo wrote 14 operas, such as The Mikado, H.M.S. Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance, and Iolanthe, and the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival was founded in 1994 to celebrate these fantastic works. Sitting somewhere between an opera and a musical, these performances are referred to as operettas or ‘light operas’. We’ll also take in the charming towns and quaint villages of the Peak District, including Eyam, Castleton, Bakewell and Matlock Bath.

Discover the quaint villages of the Peak District on our trip to charming Eyam – known for its associations with the Black Death! Dark history aside, it is a pretty village with a craft centre, sculpture garden and market hall.
We also call at Castleton, a picturesque village in the Hope Valley – steeped in history and a quintessential English hamlet.
We return back to the hotel in time to get ready for tonight's performance and transfer is included to the Buxton Opera House ready for a 7.30pm performance

Morning at Leisure in the hotel. Why not pop into Sheffield centre to do some shopping or visit one of the many museums or enjoy the leisure facilities at the hotel including swimming pool and spa before we return to Buxton for free time to explore and watch the 2nd performance at the Opera House of one of Gilbert and Sullivan Masterpieces.

Today, we will visit the pretty town of Bakewell, best known for its famous tart and beautifully location on the banks of the River Wye.
We will then visit the spa town of Matlock Bath. Lord Byron dubbed it ‘Little Switzerland’ on account of its magnificent views and steep, wooded hillsides. It has been attracting visitors since the late 17th century, and by the 19th century it was a place for the finest in society to be seen, including royalty.
