Join us for a magical winter holiday, admiring enchanting scenery, enjoying journeys on some of the best rail routes in Switzerland, and soaking up the splendid atmosphere in charming towns. We’ll have plenty to discover during this fantastic holiday.
Staying in the picturesque town of Hergiswil at the Seehotel Pilatus Hotel, we will be ideally placed for exploring some of Switzerland’s best sights. Our first excursion will see us travelling along the famous Golden Pass route by rail, first reaching Interlaken where we will change trains to make our way to Grindelwald. Take in beautiful views during our journey, as we travel via the Brunig Pass and reach an altitude of 1,008m.
We will then take a ride on the Engelberg Snow Express, offering up spectacular views of Lake Lucerne and the Engelberg Valley. In Engelberg, admire magnificent Mount Titlis, which forms a spectacular backdrop to this town. We will then get the opportunity to ride the rotating cable car up to the summit, admiring unparalleled 360 degree views of this mountain range from a height of 3,020 metres above sea-level.
It will then be time to sit back and relax, as we travel to Lucerne and take a cruise on the tranquil Lucerne. Then we will board the oldest cog railway in Europe, which will take us to reach the summit of Mount Rigi. Often referred to as the ‘Queen of the Mountains’, this is sure to make for a memorable experience.Our final excursion will take us on the journey of a lifetime, as we travel along the world-famous Glacier Express route. Travelling to Andermatt, we will make our way via the Oberalp Pass, rising to a height of 2,033 metres above sea level.

Engelberg Snow Express and Mount Titlis Cable Car
Join us for a ride on the superb Engelberg Snow Express, travelling from Hergiswil, via Stans, to Engelberg. This excellent train journey will allow us to take in magnificent views, as we travel past Lake Lucerne and through the Engelberg Valley to reach this popular town.
Engelberg is famous for Mount Titlis, which overlooks the town. This imposing mountain is the highest in the Susten Pass’ north range, and we will be able to take in incredible views from its summit as we walk to join board the world’s first rotating cable car. This cable car ride will give us the opportunity to soak up superb 360 degree views of the landscape, rising to 3,020 metres above sea-level.
Glacier Express route
Take in spectacular scenery on the world-famous Glacier Express route today, as we travel by rail from Hergiswil to Andermatt, and on to Sedrun via the Oberalp Pass.
The Oberalp Pass is the highest point on our journey, with the engine pulling the train up to 2,033 metres above sea level in height. This part of the journey will feature snowy scenery, towering mountains and steep valleys, and will take us through the iconic landscapes many have come to associate with the Swiss Alps.
Golden Pass Route by Rail
The Golden Pass route showcases Switzerland’s amazing diversity, travelling through three regions and past two lakes. Our excursion will begin in Hergiswil, where we will board our train and will begin our journey, travelling via Sarnen to Interlaken.
Soak up magnificent scenery during our journey, from snow-capped Alpine peaks to stunning lake views. Once we reach Interlaken, we will change trains and will continue our journey to the charming town of Grindelwald. We will travel via the Brunig Pass, which reaches an altitude of 1,008m and offers up incredible views of the surrounding landscape.
Lake Lucerne Cruise and Cog Railway to Mount Rigi
Today we journey from Hergiswil to Lucerne, then enjoy a cruise on Lake Lucerne to Vitznau. This splendid lake is famous for its amazing scenery, with placid waters and magnificent views of the surrounding mountains.
After we disembark, we will board Europe’s oldest cog railway, travelling to the summit of Mount Rigi. Soak up even more of this beautiful scenery during our railway journey, admiring the ‘Queen of the Mountains’ and enjoying this incredible experience.
Full Day: Lugano
Lugano is one of the most popular lakeside cities in Italy. Named after the lake it sits on the banks of, Lugano is famous for its bustling atmosphere, amazing attractions and - of course - stunning location.
In Lugano, we’ll find narrow cobblestone streets lined with boutiques and excellent little shops where we can purchase souvenirs and mementos of our time here. We’ll also be able to take advantage of the many pavement cafes with superb views out over the lake, so we can admire the scenery here.
