    Salzburg scenery
Full Day: Salzburg & Maria Plain Basilica
The city of Salzburg makes for an excellent excursion, the city famous for being home to the Sound of Music. Enjoy the old town with its impressive fortress and cathedral, take time out to visit the house where Mozart was born or relax in the Mirabell Gardens.

There are numerous architectural styles to be found in Salzburg, including Romanesque, gothic, renaissance, baroque and many more modern styles. We’ll be able to admire this architecture throughout our visit, as well as exploring the city itself to see its many attractions.

While in Salzburg, we enjoy a trip to the Maria Plain Basilica, the city’s traditional church of pilgrimage. The church features a beautiful façade and, legend states, that Maria Plain was founded after a painting of Mary was left unharmed during a fire in Regen, Bavaria. It was then sent to Salzburg, where the church was founded in its honour.

Full Day: Stams Monastery and Tyrolean Schnapps Museum

We visit the Cistercian monastery in Stams which was founded in 1273 by Count Meinhard II of Gorz-Tyrol and his wife. The Baroque towers of the monastery, along with its alpine setting, rank among Tyrol′s most scenic spots. The Stams monastery also runs a distillery, in which, since the 16th-century, special schnapps has been distilled. The fruits for the production are cultivated in the orchards of the monastery.

After our time here, we make our way to Pill to visit a Tyrolean Schnapps Museum. Here, we learn more about how this traditional drink is produced, and enjoy a tasting experience.

    Half Day: Thiersee Passion Play

Held every six years, the Thiersee Passion Play is a centuries-old tradition for the town. An important part of Tyrolean culture, the Passion Play depicts the Passion of Jesus Christ, including his trial, crucifixion and death to mark Lent.

We travel to Thiersee to experience this moving event, which has been held in the town for over 200 years, with Category 2 tickets.

    OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS

    Innsbruck
    Full Day: Innsbruck

Innsbruck is a wonderful city and is, in fact, the capital city of Tyrol. Its placement in a valley means it features excellent scenery, with high mountains on all sides. This Alpine scenery makes the city even more mesmerising, but there’s a lot more to see in the city besides its views.

For instance, while at leisure in Innsbruck, you may choose to visit some of the many attractions the city has to offer, such as Ambras Castle, the Rococo-style Helblinghaus and, opposite it, the iconic Goldenes Dachl, which many see as Innsbruck’s symbol. This building features thousands of fire-gilded copper tiles that account for its name, which can be translated as ‘Golden Roof’. It was built for Emperor Maximilian I when he married Bianca Maria Sforza in 1500.

    Rattenberg
Half Day: Rattenberg and Kisslinger Crystal

We enjoy a trip to Rattenberg, known for its idyllic charm and glorious views. The scenery is second to none here, with the huge Rat Mountain forming a backdrop to the town. There are lots of exciting things to do, including shopping on the main street, where we’ll find numerous shops selling the crystal glass the town is famous for.

Onwards from Rattenberg, we take a trip to Kisslinger Crystal, famous for producing beautiful crystal glass products. Learn more about how these delicate items are crafted and perhaps even buy a gift for yourself, or friends and family at home.

    Innsbruck
    Innsbruck Guided City Tour
To learn more about Innsbruck, and to take in even more of the splendid sights, we’ll also be able to join an optional guided city tour. This will give us greater insight into Innsbruck’s history, and will allow us to tour more of the city.
    Salzburg

The city of Salzburg is known for its splendid architecture, much of which is in the extraordinary baroque style.
