Full Day: Amsterdam
As Holland’s capital city, Amsterdam is guaranteed to be a fantastic place to visit during our New Year break. The city is famous for its expansive canal system and many bridged islands, for which it’s earned the name ‘Venice of the North’. This bustling city will be a highlight on our holiday, as it is absolutely packed with things to do.
The Museum Square, or ‘Museumplein’, is home to some of the most significant museums in the city, such as the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, and Stedelijk Museum. All three are well worth touring in our spare time in the city, and there’s also the Anne Frank House and the Civic Guards Gallery, as well as many other exhibits and sights.
Full Day: Zundert Flower Parade
Admire the stunning floral displays at the annual Zundert Flower Parade which began in 1936 to honour Queen Wilhelmina's birthday. Today the parade is a huge spectacle with giant floats built by residents of 20 hamlets around the small village of Zundert competing. The floats are covered in thousands of flowers, and uniquely, only dahlias are used to craft the elaborate displays. Over 600,000 dahlias from dozens of species are grown locally just for the parade. This is sure to be an incredible sight!
Amsterdam Canal Cruise
During our time in Amsterdam, we'll get the option of taking a scenic canal cruise, which will take us along one of the many canals in the city. This will allow us to see why Amsterdam's canals are so popular, and will give us a chance to learn more about how and why they were built.
