This springtime break combines the floral extravaganza of Keukenhof, a glimpse into bygone times at the traditional village of Volendam and a visit to the dazzling Dutch capital.
Volendam is the quintessential Dutch harbour village with characteristic gabled houses, narrow alleyways, canals and drawbridges. It has preserved its traditions and heritage dating back to the 17th century, when it thrived as a major shipping port on the old Zuiderzee. You can still see lady villagers wearing their traditional costume and bonnet with pride.
Volendam is particularly famous for its association with artists such as Picasso and Renoir who were attracted by the natural beauty of the area and were offered accommodation at the local inn in exchange for their drawings, etchings and paintings.
