    Experience two incredible Rhineland carnivals, journeying to Cologne to take in the charming children’s procession through the city centre, and to Aachen to discover the Rose Monday carnival. Immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere, learn all about carnival traditions and enjoy a trip to explore the cities of Delft and The Hague, too!  Our exciting touring holiday will stay for four nights at the Hotel Buschhausen in Aachen, going on to the Oud London Hotel in the Utrecht area for three nights, and enjoying a final overnight in Lille. We’ll have plenty to discover during our break, with two fantastic carnivals to take in and a trip to explore two wonderful cities. Read More

    We’ll begin with the Cologne Rose Monday Carnival - we’ll transfer to the city of Cologne to see the Children’s Processions in this incredible carnival, sure to be an astounding experience, , where local school groups will parade through the city centre. This charming event is sure to make for a wonderful day out!

    Upon returning to our hotel, we’ll have an evening introduction to Rhineland carnival traditions and songs to look forward to, so we can learn more about this fascinating culture! The next day will be fun-filled, as we prepare for Aachen’s Rose Monday carnival with face painting and more songs.

    After a traditional brunch, we’ll take the short walk into the town centre (coach transfer available) to experience the excellent Rose Monday procession, which is always exciting. Expect lots of carnival-goes in fancy dress, dancing, amazing floats and fantastic parades. We’ll then enjoy an evening carnival buffet at our hotel.

    It will then be time to make our way to the Utrecht area, where we’ll get the chance to explore the captivating cities of Delft and The Hague. Discover the spectacular attractions here, such as the City Hall, and the Old and New Churches in Delft, as well as the 13th-century Ridderzaal, Noordeinde Palace, and the Kingdom of the Netherlands monument in The Hague.

    Full Day: Amsterdam

    As Holland’s capital city, Amsterdam is guaranteed to be a fantastic place to visit during our break. The city is famous for its expansive canal system and many bridged islands, for which it’s earned the name ‘Venice of the North’. This bustling city will be a highlight on our holiday, as it is absolutely packed with things to do.

    The Museum Square, or ‘Museumplein’, is home to some of the most significant museums in the city, such as the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, and Stedelijk Museum. All three are well worth touring in our spare time in the city, and there’s also the Anne Frank House and the Civic Guards Gallery, as well as many other exhibits and sights.

    Full Day: Cologne Carnival
    Join us for a day of festivities at the Cologne Carnival. We’ll watch the charming Children’s Processions, which are bound to make for a fantastic day out. Watch the parade, filled with colourful costumes and decorations, as well as elaborate floats and a wonderful atmosphere.

    Full Day: Delft and The Hague

    We visit historical Delft, famous for its blue and white pottery, with a labyrinth of canals, fairy-tale shaped bridges and beautiful painted gables. Enjoy time to explore at leisure here, before we make our way to The Hague. This city is home of the Dutch royal family and is the site of the international Court of Justice, in the famous Peace Palace. With more time to explore here, this is sure to make for a memorable excursion.

    Half Day: Aachen Rose Monday Carnival
    Time to enjoy a great day out in Aachen at the town’s Rose Monday procession, where we can immerse ourselves in the festive atmosphere here. Admire the amazing fancy dress costumes that other carnival-goers and those taking part in the procession have donned, as well as the themed floats that pass by. There will be music and dancing too, making this an event not to be missed!

    Full Day: Liege and Maastricht
    Our excursion today calls at the charming Belgian city of Liege, set on the River Meuse. Enjoy time at leisure to see the beautiful Prince-Bishops’ Palace, admire the seven churches and cathedrals or visit one of the popular museums, including the Grand Curtis Museum. 

    We’ll then make our way to Maastricht, a charming town in Holland which boasts splendid scenery with quaintly cobbled streets and bustling market squares. Here, we’ll find countless museums, as well as many interesting sights.
