Join us as we explore the Douro Valley with a relaxing river cruise, taking in some of Portugal’s best destinations along the way. Marvel at the amazing scenery this famous wine route is known for, discover its excellent vineyards and delve into its fascinating heritage; compare the contrasts of Porto, Portugal’s second-largest city, with the charming villages we call at.
We will sail on-board the MS Magellan, and will get the opportunity to sample Spanish and Portuguese culture at its most authentic. From Porto, one of Europe’s oldest cities, to the traditions and architecture of Salamanca and Vila Real, this cruise is full of ancient charm, while you can also enjoy the wonderful port wines this area is renowned for.
Spend time admiring the stunning views, taking in fantastic towns and cities, and getting to know your fellow passengers as we travel, or explore further with our excellent selection of optional excursions.

Half Day: Porto Guided Coach Tour
This charismatic ancient port town is steeped in history and tradition, and is well-known for the production of the popular port wine. Located at the mouth of the Douro River and registered as a UNESCO world heritage site, the historic centre presents a collection of narrow alleyways, baroque churches and inviting squares, all of which we’ll get to experience on this exciting guided coach tour.
Half Day: Salamanca Guided Walking Tour
This Spanish city is packed with history and has a wide variety of attractions to enjoy. During this optional guided walking tour, we’ll visit some of the city’s most famous sights, such as the Old Cathedral, the Tower del Clavero, the Plaza Mayor and much more.
Porto By Night
Admire the great city of Porto by night. Join our coach tour of one of Europe’s oldest cities, taking in its splendid architecture and superb attractions. We explore the historical centre and learn more about this excellent city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Vila Real and Casa de Mateus
Discover the little town of Villa Real, situated in amongst the vibrant vineyards it is famous for. The town’s name means Royal Town this moniker is due to Vila Real’s status during the Middle Ages as one of the seats of royalty along with Lisbon. There are a number of impressive buildings in the town which hark back to this time in history, in particular the cathedral. We then continue to Mateus, known for the Manor of Villa Real and the excellent rose wine produced here. Explore the Manor Solar of Mateus with us, and enjoy a stroll through the pleasant gardens.
Wines of Porto
Porto is famous for its wines, especially Port wine, and we will enjoy the opportunity to discover these amazing wines for ourselves during our excursion. Explore some of the most well-known wine-making towns along the Wine Road and visit a local quinta (wine cellar) in Porto for a wine tasting experience.
