Half Day: Ypres And Battlefields
Ypres’ location in Belgium made it a strategic centre for German forces during World War I, as it was seen as the gateway to the rest of Belgium, as well as being their entry into France. Due to this, a number of fierce battles took place in the city, which caused a tragic loss of life on both the German and allied sides.
We’ll be able to learn more about the events of World War I and their effects on Ypres during this interesting Battlefields tour, which will take us to some of the important monuments and locations in and around the Ypres area.
While we’re in Ypres, we’ll also get to admire the beautiful Cloth Hall, which dates from medieval times, as well as other attractions such as Saint Martin's Cathedral and the Menin Gate.
From Bruges we’ll make our way to Sluis in neighbouring Holland, where we’ll have free time to explore this enticing town. With its popular shopping areas and lovely atmosphere, it’s easy to fall in love with this excellent destination. Sluis is often thought of as the most Flemish town in the Netherlands, and its Flemish-style belfry certainly proves this!
