Historical Whitby is an ideal touring base from which to discover the delights of the North York Moors. Step back in time in this lovely old fishing town, overlooked by the cliff-top ruins of dramatic Whitby Abbey. We’ll take a scenic ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, as well as visiting fascinating Eden Camp and seaside Scarborough.

Itinerary

Day One - Home to Whitby
We’ll make our way from the interchange to Whitby, where we’ll check in to the Bay Royal Hotel and will enjoy a sumptuous evening meal. (D)

Day Two to Four - Whitby
We’ll have a great time, with two excursions to make the most of. We’ll enjoy a journey on-board the wonderful North Yorkshire Moors Railway, taking in splendid scenery before we visit the fascinating Eden Camp museum. We will also take a trip to seaside Scarborough, famous for its amazing coastline. (B,D)

Day Five - Whitby to Home
Time to say goodbye today; we depart after breakfast and make our way to the interchange before returning home. (B)

There is a huge amount to do in Whitby including visiting Whitby Abbey and discovering the town’s history - it is the birthplace of Captain Cook and setting of Dracula.

Travel just outside of town and you will be in the stunning North Yorkshire Moors. Take a train into the heart of this region or hop on the bus and take in ‘Britain’s most scenic bus route’.

Enjoy a journey aboard the lovingly restored carriages of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway before continuing on to take a trip down memory lane at the Eden Camp, a multi-award winning attraction telling the story of civilian life during World War II.

Half Day: Scarborough

We’ll enjoy an excursion to Scarborough - beneath the resort’s prominent headland, there thrives a colourful fishing community and sophisticated holiday resort. There’s a lot to do here, as we can go shopping in the town centre for souvenirs, or we could take in the excellent views by the seafront.
