Brittany has a rich heritage of fortified towns, glorious walled cities, castles and extravagant churches. Discover this wealth of culture from the lively Breton capital of Rennes including a visit to picturesque towns and the imposing Mont St Michel.
Mont St Michel is one of France’s most iconic attractions. Legend has it that the abbey was founded in the 8th century, when the Bishop of Avranches was visited by the Archangel Michael in a dream. The island has retained its medieval appearance and character, encircled by historical walls and ramparts.
Day One - UK to Paris area
Across to Calais, then on to our overnight hotel in the Paris area. (D)
Day Two - Paris area to Rennes
We spend some time at leisure in the French capital city of Paris before the journey to Rennes. (B,D)
Days Three to Six - Rennes
Enjoy time to relax and discover the unique scenery and rich architectural heritage of Rennes. This Breton city is a great base from which to enjoy our three included excursions. (B,D)
Day Seven - Rennes to Northern France
Travelling back to Northern France via beautiful Chartres, famous for its medieval cathedral, arriving at our overnight hotel in time for dinner. (B,D)
Day Eight - Northern France to UK
Calais, then home. (B)

En Route: Chartres Included Populated
Enjoy an en route visit to Chartres, a charming city with beautiful architecture. Chartres is especially famous for its magnificent cathedral; be sure to take a stroll through the city centre to admire this picturesque city.
Full Day: Guerande, Vannes and Carnac
We travel along the coast to the medieval town of Guerande, before continuing to picturesque Vannes. Explore the maze of streets, ramparts and cathedral in the charming old town. The bordering Morbihan Gulf, providing scenic views, is a landlocked sea scattered with numerous islands. We also visit Carnac, an extraordinary site with standing stones.
Full Day: Mont St Michel and Combourg
Imposing Mont St Michel was once a destination for pilgrims and its dramatic monastery dominates the surrounding coast. We also visit the historical town of Combourg, considered by many as the ‘cradle of Romanticism’ due to its connections with the French writer Francois-Rene de Chateaubriand. Admire the town’s pretty architecture and laid-back atmosphere.
Full Day: Saint Malo and Dinard
Enjoy a scenic drive along the coast to reach Saint Malo, where many of the town’s historical sights are within the walls of the Old Town, Discover the Place Chateaubriand, lined with bars and cafes, before we continue to the wonderful seaside town of Dinard.
Paris Guided City Tour and River Seine Cruise
While we’re in Paris, we’ll be offered the opportunity of seeing the city from an entirely different perspective by going on a guided coach tour, or a river cruise down the Seine. This will take us past some of Paris’ most well-known attractions, while also giving us a bit more information about them so we can learn everything there is to know during our stay.
