The wonderful country of Iceland offers unique natural wonders and cultural heritage, from bubbling geysers to geothermal spas, which we’ll discover on this fantastic break, as well as spending time in the colourful capital of Reykjavik. Our interesting tour will stay both in the city as well as along the south coast, so we can see the varied landscapes, from the volcanic black sand beaches to glacial lagoons.
Day 1 UK to Iceland
Travel to your chosen airport for the flight to Reykjavik, where you will take the local shuttle bus to the Hotel Cabin, for our overnight stay.
Day 2 Reykjavik to Hella
Today after breakfast, we join our driver guide and the rest of our group and visit the famous Blue Lagoon, before travelling to the Reykjanes Peninsula. We'll visit the Maritime & Folk Museum, before arriving at the Arhus Cottages in Hella for our three night stay. (B)
Day 3 Landmannalaugar Highlands & Pjorsardalur Valley
We drive to the Landmannalaugar Highlands to see the colourful mountains and journey through the Pjorsardalur Valley. (B)
Day 4 Golden Circle
This morning, head out to follow the popular ‘Golden Circle’ route, taking us to three of Iceland’s famous spots. We’ll travel into the Pingvellir National Park, see the Strokkur geyser, then continue to Gullfoss waterfall. (B)
Day 5 Westman Islands
We take the short ferry to the Westman Islands to visit Heimaey. Learn about the volcanic eruption here and see an excavation project, known as the ‘Pompeii of the North’. This afternoon we travel on to Vik area to stay for two nights. (B)
Day 6 Vaknajokull Glacier & Ice Lagoon
Today we travel to Vatnajokull, Europe’s second largest national park, home to Europe’s largest glacier. We take a round hike, seeing Svartifoss waterfall and impressive basalt columns. In the afternoon we enjoy a glacial lagoon cruise, going on to see the nearby black sand beaches. (B)
Day 7 South coast to Reykjavik
Our journey heads back towards Reykjavik today, as we travel along the south coast. Enjoy a stroll on the black lava beach, before we enjoy a walk with our experienced glacier guide. On arrival back in the capital, we enjoy a short city tour, before our final overnight stay at the Hotel Cabin. (B)
Day 8 Reykjavik to UK
Take the shuttle bus service from the hotel back to the airport for your return flight home. (B)
On the outskirts of the city, on the coast, this welcoming hotel is a comfortable base for our stay.

Blue Lagoon and Reykjanes Peninsula
We visit the famous Blue Lagoon for chance to relax and bathe in the wonderful geothermal waters' Leaving the city behind, we travel to the Reykjanes Peninsula, passing the unique landscapes of lava fields and dramatic coast. On our way, we’ll stop at a local fishing village and visit the interesting Maritime & Folk Museum, before continuing to our next hotel.
Landmannalaugar Highlands and Pjorsardalur Valley
We drive to the Landmannalaugar Highlands to see the colourful mountains and you have the opportunity for a dip in a geothermal stream. On our way through the Pjorsardalur Valley, admire the beautiful Hjalparfoss waterfall and extraordinary basalt rock formations. See the Viking farm ruins at Stong and enjoy a leisurely hike on one of the local nature trails with our guide, to admire the green oasis of Gjain.
We head out to follow the popular ‘Golden Circle’ route, taking us to three of Iceland’s famous spots. We’ll travel through the Pingvellir National Park, seeing the Strokkur geyser, which erupts approximately every ten minutes, then continue to see the beautiful Gullfoss waterfall. Even before arriving at the geyser geothermal fields, you will see the steam rising as we approach.
We take the short ferry across to the Westman Islands, where we visit the little town of Heimaey. Learn about the volcanic eruption here, which forced an evacuation of the entire population for several months, and see an interesting excavation project, known as the ‘Pompeii of the North’.

Today is filled with impressive scenery, as we travel to Vatnajokull, Europe’s second largest national park, home to Europe’s largest glacier. We take a round hike with our experienced guide, seeing Svartifoss waterfall and impressive basalt columns. In the afternoon we enjoy a glacial lagoon cruise, going on to see the nearby black sand beaches, before returning to our hotel.
South coast to Reykjavik
Our journey heads back towards Reykjavik today, as we travel along the south coast, overlooked by mountainous cliffs. Why not enjoy a stroll on the unique black lava beach and see the native birds which perch on the surrounding cliffs. We also take a scenic hike with our experienced guide, before heading back to the capital, Reykjavik. Here we enjoy a short city tour, seeing some of the city's landmarks, such as the Hallgrimskirkja church and the iconic steel Viking ship sculpture.
