Visit beautiful Germany as it hosts the wonderful Christmas markets and get into the festive season, with the colourful stalls, unique gifts and tasty food and drinks.
After our first overnight stay, we’ll call at bustling Rudesheim, set on the River Rhine. Enjoy a stroll in the town and along the quaint Drosselgasse and savour some of the treats available, such as the traditional gingerbread hearts and warming mulled wine.
From our hotel in Heppenheim, we’ll take a trip to visit beautiful Heidelberg, where you can walk along the charming winding alleyways of the Old Town or do some shopping along one of Europe’s largest pedestrianised streets. The famous landmark of the city is Heidelberg Castle, where each building highlights a different period of German architecture. Take a walk over the bridge and along the River Neckar for great views back towards the city.
We’ll include the tram up to the castle for a visit and will have dinner locally, for chance to see the city illuminated by evening, before returning to our hotel.
On the way back towards our final hotel stay, we’ll visit historic Speyer, famous for its stunning Imperial Cathedral, which is the largest preserved Romanesque church in Europe. The delightful Christmas market is held on the bustling Maximilianstrasse, in front of the Old Mint, where there are also interesting stalls hosted by the city’s twin towns.
