Day Two to Four
Over the three days we will spend in Bournemouth we visit three of the New Forest’s most beautiful gardens. One excursion travels to Exbury Park Gardens, a myriad of different gardens furnished with rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias and various rare trees from across the world. We then continue to Highcliffe Castle Gardens which spectacularly surround a cliff-top mansion. Separately we will visit Compton Acres, the series of gardens includes an Italian garden, a rock and water garden, a heather garden and a Japanese garden as well as the wooded valley, a less formal but very scenic area, akin to a fairy-tale forest. The other day will be yours to enjoy at leisure. Bournemouth has an array of attractions and shops, for those looking to go a little further, train connections to the Isle of Purbeck and the New Forest leave from Bournemouth station which is just a short walk from our hotel. After breakfast we depart and travel home via the interchange. (B)
Stay right on the seafront in the beautiful area of Westcliff just a short walk from the beach with an onsite refreshing swimming pool and scenic sun terrace to unwind after a busy day by the sea.
From here, the walk along the seafront is stunning, with golden beaches leading to one of the most fashionable areas of the entire country, the community of Sandbanks. Here you will find fantastic bars and restaurants which is also the case just 5 or ten minutes away from the hotel on the other side in central Bournemouth.
For lovers of the outdoors, staying in Bournemouth really gives you everything, especially for those who are willing to venture a little way out of the town. A number of beautiful areas are available just a short distance away by both car and public transport; these include Cranbourne Chase, the Jurassic Coast and the New Forest among many others.
Inside our pretty Edwardian Hotel and its grounds you can enjoy a game of Croquet on wide lawns, relax on the sun terrace or chill out in the pool. In the restaurant you can enjoy fantastic and varied menus daily for breakfast and evening meals and snacks and drinks are served throughout the day on the sun terrace.
Full Day: Exbury Park Gardens And Highcliffe Castle Gardens
Today we travel into the New Forest to Exbury Gardens where we will see world-famous displays of rhododendrons, azaleas and camellias. As well as the beautiful flora here you will also be able to enjoy more than 20 miles of footpaths, riverside walks, a steam railway, tea rooms and art exhibitions. We then continue onto Highcliffe Castle gardens. Highcliffe Castle was built along a stretch of cliffs that give great views of the Solent and the Isle of Wight. The gardens themselves are beautifully laid out, having been designed by legendary gardener Capability Brown, while the house is seen as one of the most important examples of Romantic and Picturesque architecture.
Half Day: Compton Acres
First built in 1920, Compton Acres is seen as one of the most important ornamental gardens in England. The themed gardens contain more than 3,000 species of plant, some found nowhere else in the country. The five themed gardens are the Italian Garden, Rock & Water Gardens, Heather Garden, Japanese Garden and the Wooded Valley. Each garden exhibits different aspects of the outdoors and a number of different plants and sculpture which work together to create beautiful landscapes and wonderful gardens.
