    Alpujarras

A trip to Las Alpujarras is a very special experience. The tour takes us along the Costa Tropical until we head inland climbing up through an enormous gorge, carved over time by the Guadalfeo River.

The Sierra Nevada has the highest peaks on mainland Spain, so the views are quite spectacular. We’ll enjoy various stops in the little villages in the area along the way, and will stop at an establishment to learn more about the delicious cured ham this part of Spain is known for. The conditions here are excellent for curing ham, and we’ll enjoy an explanation of the process and will also get to taste of the produce, with a glass of wine.

After this, we’ll head to the next village for a spot of tapas lunch at a very cosy little bodega, along with some local wine.

Our excursion today takes us to the beautiful area of La Axarquia, where the rolling hills are covered by parallel rows of olive trees. Spain is the country with the largest olive production in the world and we shall be visiting one of the many olive mills in the area. Here, we’ll learn all about the process for the production of olive oil.

After this we’ll have lunch in a very special way - the local housewives are going to cook and serve a typical Andalusian meal with everything that goes with it! This will be one of the highlights of the whole tour, as we’ll get a real insight into Spanish lifestyle and cooking.

    Almunecar

Today we’ll take a lovely introductory stroll into the historical part of Almunecar. The town has a rich heritage and there are remains from both the Roman and the Moorish periods found here.

Besides the aqueduct and the San Miguel fortress, we can admire El Salazon, the Roman fish-salting workshop which supplied the Roman Empire with salted fish two thousand years ago. The legacy of the Moors is also present, with the narrow winding streets in the old part of town.

Afterwards, we’ll visit a few of the local bars to enjoy a drink and some tapas.

    Nerja Caves in Spain

Today we’ll visit the famous caverns in Nerja, originally discovered in 1959 by children playing in the area. These fascinating caves are 200,000 years old and we’ll get the opportunity to view one of the world’s largest columns, formed by a stalactite meeting a stalagmite, which is an impressive 32 metres tall.

Very near to Nerja is Frigiliana, a beautiful village, which is often voted as one of the prettiest in Spain. Here in a quaint family-run bodega we’ll be introduced to some of the special dessert wines which are produced here. After this, we’ll take a quiet stroll down the narrow, flower-lined streets and will spend time at leisure in the village.

    OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS

    The Alhambra, Granada

Granada’s stunning Alhambra Palace is the crowning glory of the ancient Moorish empire. The palace and its extensive gardens create a green oasis, with sweeping views to the Sierra Nevada.

We’ll see the elegant Patio de los Leones, with its cool, inviting fountains, intricate mosaic tiling and the lush greenery of the scented gardens during our evening visit to this spectacular palace.

    General Life, Granada
    Guided City Tour of Granada

The city of Granada has been shaped by the hills, where the old districts in the Albaicin and the Alhambra were founded, brimming with steep, narrow streets, beautiful nooks and crannies and marvellous landscapes.

The new part of the city is situated on the plain, criss-crossed by the large arteries of Gran via de Colon and Calle de los Reyes Catolicos and where the busy streets around the cathedral are found. We’ll take an exciting guided city tour to learn more about the city’s history, and to discover its best attractions.
