Days Two to Four: Berkeley
We spend the next three days in the small town of Berkeley during which time we will take three fantastic excursions to discover Monmouthshire, the Cotswolds and Gloucestershire.

We take a scenic drive through the Cotswolds, passing quaint villages of typical Cotswolds limestone, arriving at the spa town of Cheltenham, known for its heritage and Regency architecture. On the way back to Berkeley we will call at Bouton-on-the-Water, which is famous for its position on the River Windrush and its reputation as one of the Cotswold’s prettiest villages.

We also have a trip on the Dean Forest railway through beautiful forests and countryside before taking a drive through the Forest of Dean and the town of Monmouth.

Finally we visit nearby Berkeley Castle, a former Norman fortress, famous as the site of the murder of Edward II and the home of the Berkeley family.

In free time you can relax in the hotel or explore the nearby town of Berkeley. In town there’s the opportunity to learn about the life of Edward Jenner, the father of inoculation who was born here and now has a museum dedicated to his life close to Berkeley’s centre. (B,D)
